So, I have a pair of Grado SR80 headphones. They are, perhaps, some of the best headphones you can possibly get for less than $100 (they cost $99, heh). Sometime around last year, I lost the foam for one of the speakers, and, thinking Grado just wasn't in Korea, I put them in a drawer, sadness on my face.

Around 6 months ago, I found the boutique headphone shop in Yongsan and OH MY GOD! Not only did they have Grado, but they had replacement foam. How much? $20.

Sad

Screw that, I said, and put the matter further to rest.

I go back yesterday, deciding to suck it up because I got an Ipod touch and I really don't like the earbuds. So, I go back. How much? $32. For the set.

Now, I don't know when they increased in price, whatever, the thing is, Grado is a little known headphone maker. Those foam pieces cannot be flying off the f'ing shelves. Why not call your manager, and ask if he will simply sell me *one* for $16. Why lose the entire f'ing sale? Who is ever going to need both pieces of foam at the same time? Yes, I know you want $32, but the likelihood of selling both at the same time is so low. How about making $16 instead of f'ing $0?

Thing is, I run into this all the time, the odd inflexibility of Korean merchants. It seems to go up the more foreign the product is too.

I'm with the merchant on this one. He's got a very marginal, low-demand, high-end luxury product and someone wants him to reduce its saleability by making it even more low-demand. What are the chances of someone else ever wanting just one of the pair? It's like demanding to be sold one trouser leg.

I see where you're coming from, but I disagree with your analogy; it's more like he's sitting on a set of tires for a rare car. Now, he can sit on the set forever, or, he can sell them when and as people need them, seeing as it's rare that people will even need *one* let alone all 4.

I know I was deliberately facetious with my analogy, but I still thinks it's six of one, half a dozen of the other in this case. I can see both sides of it. I don't think it's as cut-and-dried as you make out.

http://www.nextag.com/Grado/replacement-cushion/brand-html

$15 plus whatever for postage seems a bit better. They're just foam rubber after all.

Anyways, they come as a set of two.I hear Grado headphones, whilst sounding good, aren't that comfortable, good to have a spare.
