Laurier once said the 20th century would belong to Canada. I'm suspicious of any such claims. |

Canada has all the room in the world, if only it could substantially increase its population in the north, while maintaining GDP per capita it could be a force |

I thought so until I moved here.
Suddenly, not so much. |

The World's Geopolitcal balance is beginning to look more and more like the early 1900's in which you had Great Britain(now replaced by the US), as #1 among several powers and Germany(now China) as a rising challenger. Also, now the EU seems to be in the position that the US was in during that time period; a potentially powerful entity that is more in cooperation with the Super Power than confrontation and stands to gain the most from the competition between #1 and #2.
Japan is in France's old position. It's neither #1 or #2 and it doesn't have the potential to get up there, so it's got nowhere to go but down in relation to everyone else.
Russia is in the same position it was in 100 year ago. The West is encroaching in, this time in the form of The EU, Nato, and democracy. The Balkans is once again a hot spot of contention between Russia and the West. Our old friend Serbia is of course right in the middle of it.
And meanwhile, the Asians are trying to get a hold of Siberia again.
China's domestic problems have grown faster than its economy. Pretty soon were going to see the fallout from their little Three Gorges Dam project. The next few years will be quite a show. |

You've more chance of being bitten on the arse by a cabbage.
Asian countries are entirely reliant on trade with the US and EU. |

You're asking about Asia as a whole, so how did this end up on the options list?

And anyway, "blistering pace" of what, may I enquire? Plastic surgery? Divorces? Bride imports? Prozzy exports? |

China is overrated. For all its clout its GDP is still only a small fraction of that of the U.S. + E.U., and it's blistering growth is not sustainable. I don't think it will even surpass the U.S. (you always hear how it will happen by 2050 or whatever arbitrary date they come up with, but I think the crash will come long before).
Basically the West already controls the lion's share of resources around the world, and the only way I can see a country like China replacing our hegemony to the extent necessary to surpass us, is by force (which is impossible). |

You take poll options very seriously. I appreciate your response (I'm no philistine, Q), so let me explain. I assumed that Korea would finally take revenge on their neighbors and conquer Asia, and therefore all Asia would be Korean.
As for pace, I meant the growth of Korea's economy. But change that to East Asia's economies |

Not yet but as soon as they can coordinate every earthling simultaneously putting anti-freeze-laced Chinese toothpaste in their mouths at once, the earth is theirs. |

Your first paragraph I've heard many times by Korean boys (middle school).
It was a class on superlatives, I think.
Question: what's the biggest country in the world?
Student: Korea.
Me: What the mother f*** ??
Student: After World War III.
Korea is to become an expansionist! |

Maybe the 22nd century? The 21 century seems to be about most of Asia just catching up (except Japan). |

This is assuming that raw resources are always going to have such a high importance. This is, of course, wrong. |

You, of course, must be joking. Been watching too much Star Trek lately or something? |
