Dam terrorists. I hate them screwing up travel and shopping for all of us. I am sure most all of hate them too. Not only do they screw up travel and shopping, they also are screwing up the economy in many places. Look at how the US was economically and emotionally devastated after the twin towers fell. Something America will never recover from or be as good as it would had been had the terrorists not came to wreak havoc.
I wonder what they want with the Filipinos? Who is thier enemy? Is it Islamic extremists like Al Quada or does it have something do with something like a private terrorist group hired by a foreign corporate chief who is pissed off over Filipinos taking their market share in something? I believe it's possible to see business wars coming about, but I really don't know any factual cases yet, just an idea.
If anyone knows, please enlighten us. |

An extract from the NY Times:
"The Philippines is one of Southeast Asias hotbeds of terrorism. It is home to the Abu Sayyaf, a Filipino terrorist group linked with Jemaah Islamiyah, the Indonesia-based terror network alleged to have ties to al-Qaeda.
According to the police, the two groups are responsible for some of the most horrific attacks in the country.
In 2004, Abu Sayyaf bombed a passenger ship in Manila Bay, killing more than 100 people. It was the worst attack in the region since the Bali bombings in October 2002. Abu Sayyaf was also behind a bus bombing in February 2005, in which four people were killed, not too far from the site of Fridays blast. Terrorist attacks and bombings in the Philippines have occurred mostly in the troubled island of Mindanao, in the south, where Abu Sayyaf and Jemaah Islamiyah are most active." |

It's Manila with one L.
It's also other Filipinos doing the attacking.
I did notice last time I was there that mall security had become a little more relaxed....
Shame, I quite like going to the Glorietta & Greenbelt malls in Makati, I used to live walking distance from there.

It's pretty messed up.. BUT...
RURAL Mindinao IS muslim...and the rest of the Philippines including urban Mindinao IS catholic. The big urban cities of Mindinao became Catholic because the Philippines government gave rights to 'homesteaders' to go take the land from the muslims and 'catholize them' more or less.
So now you have some wealthy economic centers in the form of urban centers of Catholic Philippines making money and doing quite well in Muslim Mindinao...and you've had conflict ever since. |

Surprised there isn't more international news on this. If it was in London, Madrid, Tokyo or somewhere, it would be all over the news.
Happens in Manila, and no one seems to give it a second though.
11 died and over 100 injured. Ground floor of a very popular mall in Makati (and all the malls have strong security). |
