I am wondering what the best place is that people have lived in. It would also be helpful if you described what qualities make it the best place that you have lived.

My vote is for Gwangju but I have only lived in two places in Korea.

I lived in a loft apartment in Hongdae. It had two floors but the second floor was a balcony with a roof that was about 5' high. Overall the thing was cramped. It was great for the location though. Whenever my woman would pass out in the park I could fireman-carry her home.

Oh, and for the record, when Koreans see a white guy fireman-carrying a passed out Korean girl down the street in Hongdae, they do nothing. Even I was surprised in hindsight.

A house with hot water, warmth in the winter, not far from the taxi stand that gives me freedom of movement throughout the winter.

I kinda miss Incheon, surprisingly enough. Dong Incheon especially. A stroll around there and the environs on a crisp Sunday autumn afternoon will always be one of my fondest memories of Korea.

I've lived in quite a few places in Korea and I really enjoyed living in Jinju.

Jeju wasnt the best, but it was the most interesting I guess. I would never live there again because it was too interesting.

Northern Seoul.

The utter lack of urban planning means you get this jumble of twisting roads with everything thrown willy-nilly on the street. You never know what's around the corner on that next small street over.

It really plays to the explorer in me.

I used to have a house in Korea. I heard that neighbourhood's gone now or something. But, it was a nice place.

Where I am now (finally). I lived a few other places that were alright- but this one I actually like. The apartment itself isn't that large (but not cramped by a long shot- room for a couch and a spare bed when guests come over, etc.), but I love living in the middle of Hyehwa. It doesn't have quite the nightlife of Hongdae (at all- and I wish Hongdae was ten minutes closer for those late night rides home), but in my opinion it's a prettier area to live in with all the trails and palaces and such around, and there are plenty of bars to grab a drink at.

Not many foreigners though- (which I see as good and bad)- maybe because there aren't many apartment buildings and thus hagwons in the region. The Filipino market on Sunday has great Lumpia. Come try it.

OK. The weather sucks. It rains 2/3 day there. Or snows. It's windy 3/4 days there.

The people, still the same Koreans more or less, are all 1 notch higher on the scale of hurry up and wait. They hurry up more and wait more... and the effect is they blow up more. I saw more fights -- fist kind -- between taxi drivers and others in 1 month in Jeju than I've seen here in my current town in the entire year. I, myself, was a participant in 1 fight and nearly another. The people are not only xenophobic toward foreigners, but theyre even xenophobic toward mainlanders.... all the lovely things about Korean culture with a big glaring spotlight. funtimes.

There are some pretty places there.. exactly 1 nice beach... Some good scenery and hikes. So it is interesting... but the interestingness does not make up for the f-upedness about the place IMHO.
