Search and/or my brain's ability to combine the correct keyword combinations have failed me. My Korean sucks as well. Any ideas on where one might take flying lessons? Preferably close to Seoul.

Sorry but it's impossible. I looked into this about 2 years ago and the only way you can fly a plane is if you can get access to the Osan military base. There is a flight club on base where you can rent a cessna 172 for about $75/hr. Unless you're in the military or are have a contract with the DOD then you're outta luck.

I doubt believe it's impossible. I've seen general aviation aircraft in Korea. It may be difficult and expensive to find a good English speaking trainer, but I'm sure one exists somewhere in Korea.

I know of two general aviation fields. One in Incheon and one by the Air and Space Museum (forget which city it's in, but it's NW of Seoul, IIRC).

A couple of links. They're in Korean, so you may be SOL. But they're a start.

Take the Imjingan/Dorasan train from Seoul Station - about 30 minutes into the trip is a small airport. You are likley to find training there. That airport is likely to be affiliated with aforementioned museum/thing.

OK it's not impossible, but you're going to be paying at least double the amount you would be in America. I found out that the cessna 172 that the AOPA rents out goes for $240/hr wet, with an instructor. Assuming you get your private in only 45 hours, you'll be spending more than $10,000, when you can get it for about $4,500-5000 in America.

I think you'd be better off saving your money and getting your ratings back home.

Thanks for the information. I'll have to check into this. The money isn't so much of a concern. It's more about doing something 'different.'

Are you rich? For $240/hr you can rent a duchess or seminole and log multi-engine time in the States, while still saving $40/hr.

As much as I want to start my flight training here, I'm not about to waste thousands of dollars to do so. Have fun

don't even think of getting your pilot's license in korea unless you can find an instructor that speaks excellent english and was trained in the west.

imo, you would do much better doing your flight training somewhere else. while the technical aspects of flying are very objective, it is still a very subjective sport. get my drift. do you really want to study with someone who very seldom thinks outside the box? i know i'll get hammered for this stereotype but i'm calling it like i see it.

The flight instructor from AOPA is Korean American so I was told there wouldn't be any problems with communcation. I actually spoke with him a couple years ago, but at the time he said I would have to go to Yang Yang airport in Gangwondo to fly, which is way too far.

What kind of a name is "Tselem"? It sounds Arabic/middle eastern.
