Hello,

In the future I will be going to Japan for a short break. I will be going to Osaka and was wondering what there is to do there. I've read various posts about Osaka but would like to know about good places to get(and take back to Korea) 1)western foods-the selection, availability, etc. and 2)toy stores. I would like to buy several of my students some of those funky Japanese robots and other gizmos that they have. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Shinsaibashi is definitely the place to go for any kind of shopping. If I remember correctly, it's subway stop M16.

Also in that area is a place called Triangle Park which is really reminiscent of San Francisco's hip areas. Lots of really good clubs are around there if you're interested.

Also make sure to check out America-mura while you're there.

I know about shopping. Gizmos you say? Two places will do ya fine: the Loft and Tokyu Hands, both conveniently located in Shinsaibashi. Go nuts. I sure did in my 5 years in Kyoto and Nara. Korean shopping is NOTHING compared to the consumer vortex you'll be sucked into in Japan.

go to hep 5 and ride the ferris wheel that over looks the whole city. (Its umeda stn on the red line). When you get to the airport after immigration, instead of going up the esclator to get to the train there is a tourist info booth just to the left of the esclator. ask for an english map of osaka and it can help you not only find the embassy but also tells you interesting things to do.
