Where could I pick up a used Strat? Or, failing that, are there any stores around with half-decent used equipment?

Well, you ain't getting mine ....
Not for any price.
Such is the rarity of the original Fender USA Strat around these 'ere parts.

Try Nagwon Instrument San-ga if you live in Seoul.

Thanks for the heads up (and I understand the devotion you have for your guitar). From what I gather, the shop you mentioned is near Insa-dong; I will be heading up to Seoul this weekend and I now have a few places to check out. Cheers, mate.

If you paid full price for that, you'd probably kick yourself if you tried my CIJ Strat.

OP, don't bother with Nakwon. If you want a Strat, check Ishibashi in Japan for a new or used CIJ Fender (don't bother with the MIJ ones). 20% in Korean taxes and duty and 100 000 won in shipping still makes them an incredible deal.

You don't need to pay duty on a used guitar if you have a receipt and just carry it thru Inchon do you?

A mate just came back with a new Fender Strat and Huges and Kettner amp ( it sounds GREAT). The guys in Japan wrote him a receipt saying "used" and he carried the guitar thru and checked in the amp.

He was questioned in Inchon and produced the receipt. They didn't open the cases.

The Ishibashi site is quite interesting. There are some fine guitars and a lot of choice. I just like to be able to play my guitar first.
I took two trips to buy a decent strat from Nagwon. The first I found a good SSH with maple neck but a brokenish case asking 900k. It was quite smooth. Wife wouldn't let me.
Second trip I tried a really bashed up USA thing for 600k, and then a Japanese Fender - a new brown delux one for 650k (but the feel was not smooth and the tuning at the twelth was slightly different than as an open string,) then at another shop a different Japanese Fender with maple, that sounded better and smoother for 400 than the more expensive one, not bad, good feel, but then, on the way out tried the last shop and found my beautiful '96 Lone Star. It was 800k and something. Good solid case and extras. I felt good about it.
It's amazing with the Tennassee ash wood body and decent neck (rosewood) that just different string brands bring out vastly different qualities in the sound. It likes decent strings not Diaddario's. It likes 20 dollar strings. It's sensitive. Slight adjustments of pick ups, amp and distortion settings really add qualities to the sound. It's a fine instrument. Always in tune. Unless the kids get on the winders. Have bashed it already and not a dent or scratch. Was made in Corona, Ca. Can you get the same with international Fender models, and do the new Mexican models have that same fine tonality?

I think MIJ is made in Japan, what's CIJ?
Just so I don't have to search it.

PS: How much is 129000 yen?
