So I ran across this article: http://news.media.daum.net/society/media/200710/14/hankooki/v18462440.html
I read it earlier and a buddy of mine (who has Skylife) told me today that rates are going up (some 30% increase) with no extra services...so I got to thinking. Me thinking...scary, ya...I know.
So here's what I think is happening (my Korean skills are not that great so any feedback on the article would be nice). Mega TV, created by KT will be installed in the large apartment block areas. What is Mega TV? Well, I think it is cable TV where you not only will get regular TV, but also anything Skylife offers.
How? Well... it is my understanding that KT owns X amount of shares of Skylife and so they can do it.
Now, since Korea is apartment friendly it'll take no time for Mega TV to be implemented (Korean gov't to vote on KT's ability to do this in November <which is essentially a done-deal>).
So....for the same (and I think cheaper) rate as Skylife...why would anyone want a dish and less channels over cable?
I know that since my buddy signed up for Skylife the quality/depth of English-based programming dropped by several channels and now they want to up the monthly fee by some 30-odd percent?
Is Skylife seeing the writing on the walls?
Has anybody read what KT's position on Skylife is? I mean wouldn't having the bonus Skylife channels be a selling point or are they intending to plug them into their programming regardless of Skylife's life?
Interesting and curious.
Any thoughts?
!shoosh,
