It is not too far from President Roh/Noh's hometown of Gimcheon.

Changwon City is one of the few planned joints in Korea. It is alright, too. In fact, one of the best Irish-Style Pubs with, one should add, the best-priced hamburger in country is in Changwon City.

I'd move there in a second if the money were right...

I'll be there a week on Tuesday Roch... I'm planning on eating Korean food and training everyday (because I work from 2-9) and coming back to Blighty proper svelte, I like the fact Changwon is modern about the part of town I will be living in.

One of my students in Masan is a national Boxing champ.

I don't know his age or weight group he's pretty tough though.

His English isn't half bad I ask him the name of his Gym.

It is pretty close to the middle of town...also very close to the stadiums for the soccer and basketball.

You could walk to EMart/Jungwoosanga(you will learn that word) in about 20-30 mins(depending on where you live).

Nice area to be in...good luck with it.

Once you get to town and you want some western company there are 2 bars...

O'Briens www.obriens-bar.com which has some great food also IP(International pub) which is just down the road.....

Both have a slightly different vibe, Obriens more for the newer and/or younger crowd and Ip for the older/more established lot it feels....however you can see most characters at both bars.

Good luck....

Gimcheon is nowhere near Changwon...i think you mean Jinyoung which is part of Gimhae city. that is noh's hometown...i went to his childhood house..zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Yes, the Friday night hamburger/beer special is great value.....

Bennigan's is near there too (Monte Cristo Sandwich).

The IP has colder beer but O'Brien's has a pool table.

Learn Korean for free at the Jung Ang Dong Min Oi Jib.

Bennigans is an abomination...the Monte christo sandwich is disguisting.

IP might have colder beer(however this could be debated) but she only cleans her lines once a year which leads to some rich build-up in her beer lines.
Have a few pints at IP and see how you feel the next day, i can assure you there will be a headache....not knocking IP though, it does have a nice chilled vibe and i have known the owner for many years and she hepled me out in my early days here a lot.

Yes, but it is fun watching the Korean Customers
eating baby back ribs with a knife and fork.

I would say decadent over disgusting on the MC sandwich.

Can't find a better MC in Korea.

JB and CB Clark!

Cheers for your advice on such matters and I hope to see you sometime in Changwon (maybe not for the first month because I'm tight on funds but the day after payday? sure thing!)

When people talk about Changwon u will hear 3 things:

1. Planned City
2. Obriens Bar
3. IP

Why? Because that's all there is! Other than seeing a movie at the always unbelievably packed Emart CGV, its a pretty uninteresting place. Plus no beaches nor subway. Oh yeah, there is a nice planned pond that you can walk around, which takes 10 minutes.

I'm not too fussed about the lack of pubs because I rarely if ever go to pubs. If Changwon has good gyms, is chav free and easy to get round (as well as get to other places) then that'll do me.

I'm staying a year to teach, not doing 10 years in sing-sing. I'm sure it will be fine!

I think the saying it is what you make of it that applies here...

Any place will be boring if you are a boring old bastard yourself....

Things I do in my free time here:
*Climb the mountains behind changwon for some exercise
*Go to the K-league(summer) or basketball(winter)
*Go have a bet at the cycling track(great laugh)
*Kick the ball around with some mates or go play some basketball
*See a movie(which is nowhere near as packed as the major cities in korea)
*Study korean
*Meet friends and have some drinks and laughs
*Go to the art gallery and Seongsan art hall(always some interesting exhibitions on)

And the good thing about Changwon is it is only 40 mins away from Busan if you want a bit more action..............
