Hiya,
I went to A+ dental clinic in Apujong the other week. The dentist was very professional, spoke English etc. the clinic was easy enough to find and had plenty of fancy machines...
but the price was a little over the top! I went in for a check up-and to talk about getting my wisdom teeth pulled. The dentist told me i needed a root canal, for a sensitive tooth. He said that would cost just over 1 million -the crown alone was 780 won. He said i need 4 fillings (i normally have good teeth). The price for the fillings and the pulled teeth seemed comparable to what i had been reading on here...the root canal seemed about 300-400 more than what people have been quoting (but many of those posts were a while back)....
has anyone had recent root canal work and been quoted this much for a crown?
thanks for any new info |

wooo, that's expensive like in America where most people go without dental care.
I wonder if there is such a thing as dental insurance in Korea? |

That's def a bargain price. I am paying half a million for each crown. But root canal work is covered by insurance...OP are you on National Health coverage? |

I went to the dentist today too, ostensibly for a scale and polish, but unsurprisingly, I found out I need a load of other work doing too. That's what you get, I suppose, when you don't visit a dentist for five years.
I was quoted W200,000 for a gold crown, W200,000 each for two gold fillings and W100,000 each for three white fillings. I need my old fillings (from childhood days of yore) replacing, see. Now, apparently, dentists won't use amalgam anymore (dangers of mercury poisoning) but I'm willing to risk the chance of toxic brain poisoning if it saves me a few bob. Has anyone had an amalgam filling here? |

Uber and the Kid, both numbers would be great. i will go back and look for past postings from Uber-but could you post it tomorrow anyway? just in case i dont find it?
thanks for you help
and the bottom line (im sure) would be that while A+ were able and willing to do a wonderful job for me, that weren't going to let a small chance for profit pass them... |

I got 2 teeth repaired with root canal work & porcelain crowns, on both teeth, at Trueden in Ilsan. 710K won all up. And a first rate job too. The surgery is a 10 minute walk from the subway stn & above Burger King.
He trained in Chicago, USA & speaks excellent English. From an older thread in May:
"I went to Trueden at La Festa in Ilsan, in December last year, & had root canal work & crowns on 2 teeth. Expensive (700k won), but zero complaints. I thought it might have been the acid in all the kimchi & pickles making my teeth play up but no there was definite infection. Also had a cold & flu since October, that just wouldn't clear up, until I got the dental work done, then it was gone in a week.
They spoke good English & the dentist had trained in the USA.
www.trueden.com (there's an 'English' button top right)
031-906-0700/903-2874 They were on the 2nd floor, above Burger King. Take the subway to Jeongbalsan Station (Line No.3), exit to Lotte Mart & head west towards Ilsan Lake Park. (2-3 blocks)."

I strongly recommend everyone here get there bad dentist visits double checked with other dentists. My friend recently went and was told he had 2 cavities on 2 top teeth. Then he went to a different dentist and that dentist said he had 2 cavities on the bottom. So yeah. Be careful. |

escapeoz-
i highly, highly recommend you get a 2nd opinion. why?
the first time i went to a dentist in seoul, i went to a very professional looking place. the doctor and i chatted throughout my scaling and he asked how much we pay to fill cavities in america. i guessed maybe $100. after my scaling, he said i had seven (7) cavities, and would fill them for 100K each.
i didn't schedule it right away (the receptionist was a bit pushy, come to think of it) because i had other plans for that 700k, but months later i felt some soreness in my teeth and went to the dental school at yonsei university to see if they could give me a better deal.
punchline: they said i didn't have ANY cavities.
apparantly, dentists have a shady reputation in korea. and from my experience, i see why. what was this jerk gonna do? drill 7 holes in my teeth for no reason other he just wanted the cash?
i'm not saying that the dentists you all go to are frauds. op- you're right. if it seems strange, ask around. now i go to my friend's mom to have my teeth cleaned. |
