Alright, so my contract is up on February 4th. I get paid on January 25th. I am wondering when I should begin to talk to my boss about leaving. I need to start booking my vacation flights and right now the dates are pretty iffy.

I want to ask my boss what I should:

1) Could I get out of my contract on the 25th and still get my return airfare, bonus, and letter of release?

2) If I leave on February 4th, would I get "pro-rated" pay for the days teaching between the 25th of Jan. and the 4th of Feb?

3) Could I just stay until February 25th, one extra month, to get one extra month of pay?

......all of these are options I would be fine doing. I am just curious when I should start talking to my boss about it. I have heard horror stories of people telling their bosses they are leaving after their contract too early, getting fired, and not getting their airfare or bonuses. Does that happen often? My school has been super good about paying us on time, giving us little bonuses here and there, and even a small raise.

What should I do? I need to book my flights early to get the best fares.

Also, instead of getting a "return ticket" home, do you think it is possible to get the money owed, to use for my traveling afterwards?

Thanks everyone, this is *much* appreciated!

Option one, leaving early, screws the boss and you on pension.

Option 2 is best, and you will be prorated for time worked.

Option 3 is harder b/c your visa expires and your boss will probably want to just hire someone else instead of do paperwork and hire someone else.

When to talk to the boss? Anytime I'd think. He provides the plane ticket? You don't need to be worried about the price. He should, and should be the one worrying about when to talk to you.

You won't need a letter of release no matter which date you leave..it's so close to the end of your visa, it doesn't matter.

If you need a Korean boss to do anything, give him 2 month notice minimum. Also check the back of your ARC card for your actual exit date. Don't go by the contract per se.
