besides the obvious hassle here's two questions that someone might be able to answer for me ....

1) how do i get a certified cheque in korea in order to pay the $25 fee?, and

2) the gentleman at the police office asked me for the "fingerprint form from the rcmp" ..... so where do i find this form? (looked on the rcmp website and i'll be darned if i could find it).

good idea but what a pain in the a55!

if you have any friends in canada, they can get one from most local police stations and mail/courier one to you. Its probably a good idea to get more than a couple sets of prints done at the same time because the RCMP doesn't return your original forms any more and they are picky about the quality of the prints.

Also, if you mark "canadian immigration purposes" on the RCMP form, they won't charge you for the $25.00.. not sure if that will work for South Korean purposes, but you never know.

I don't know about anyone else, but I am getting printed here and bringing a few completed forms with me when I come down.

Sorry, I can't help you out with the money order, up until my last day at work (tomorrow) I'm an RCMP civilian printing officer here in Canada.

Also, it takes almost 3 months to get the prints back.

Most banks that have a currency exchange counter will sell you an international money order (in CAD) that is satisfactory for paying the fee.

my understanding is you can use a local finger print form from the korean police....

* contact the nearest police force which offers fingerprinting services. The RCMP will accept fingerprint forms from foreign countries that contain the following:

* rolled and flat impressions of all ten fingers taken with black ink
* full name, date of birth and sex of the applicant
* the name and address of the police agency
* the signature of the official taking the fingerprints

p.s. have fun with this straightforward and simple process

100% true. Took me longer to explain to the Korean ploice officer why I needed it than to actually have it done and signed.

The RCMP check that I was able to successfully acquire using a Korean fingerprint form proves you wrong.

as long it has the information noted previously...(name and location of the police office etc.) it isn't a problem
