Gotte, I thought you were full of crap about the Ozomatli show, but you weren't. Tickets were 4,000 won at the door, discounted from 55,000 (Interpark's price).
I have 2 questions:
Why did "Yellow Entertainment" become "Yellow 9"? (not important) But in this thread: http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=102891, you refer to the company by yet another name.
Why are tickets so expensive for the Brand New Heavies when you were able to offer 4,000 won tickets for the previous, much better (but still unknown to the mass public) band? And in the same thread as linked before (http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=102891), you are charging 55,000 for an even lesser-known band.
Don't expect a big crowd at 66,000, or 55,000. It's hard for people to pay that just to see headlining bands. |

Glad you came out and enjoyed the Ozomatli show. It was a great show and everyone seemed satisified from promoters to the fans to the band(who told me they'd like to come back and play the Pentaport Festival next summer).
As far as the name, Yellow Entertainment is the parent company. Yellow 9 is the concert/family event promoter and they have just launched Yellow Recommends/Yellow New Music Series. I am just volunterring for the company in hopes of them attracting more named talent to perform in Korea.
I understand that tickets for Ozomatli was originally high and Brand New Heavies might also be high, but please try to realize that we are in Korea. It's basically an untapped market for concerts and we've got to start somewhere. I've also learned that there is no way of pleasing everyone. I've heard complaints ranging from a venue not selling beer to ticket cost to start time. Concerts aren't booked here to attract the foreign community. Sure many teachers work past 8, but there are loads of others who don't. There is also a Korean community that promoters need to focus on. Things could be done so much better and hopefully Yellow Ent. is on the verge of making it better for both the foreign and Korean community. They will adveritise, if with their budget for the show, they will spread the word to Koreans and foreigners alike. They will contact newspapers, magazines, put up posters around the city as well as try to line up interviews with bands in the local papers.
Sure ticket prices are high, but most tickets prices in ASIA are high due to the amount of travel the bands are put through to play here. This is a way to assure that someone will make a bit of money. One mistake we all do here as foreigners is compare Seoul concerts to how things are done where we are originally from. I've been guilty of it and still am in trying to help the promoters succeed. I think we should suck it up and pay the prices for some of these bands that we might be interested in with the future hopes that concerts will become cheaper. We also need to realize there is a huge governement tax for entertainment here. And, few advertisers are used at all. If some promoters could find some advertisers, this might help cheapen the cost of the tickets, but unfortunately Korean companies don't adveritse in Korea in the same way that companies help advertise or do trade in western countries.
I know this might not be the best answer, but I'm hoping it helps a bit. please remember I'm still learning the business in Seoul as I type this and I'm trying to do all I can to help out to make the concert business a thriving one in Korea.
If you have any furthers questions, don't hesitate to contact me.

66,000 for the BNH is a bit steep. Suppose they were ok back in the day. I had a few of their 12"s myself although, I always thought that they sounded much better when Ray Hayden was twiddling the remix knobs.
Even if I lived near Seoul, I wouldn't fork out 66,000. Christ, thats about 33 quid. |
