Just wondering, what are the steps to re-up with EPIK? I'm finishing my 1st year contract in Feb 2008, but haven't heard a word about if I'm staying. When does all this happen?

Step 1: Wait
Step 2: Wait some more.
Step 3: Bring it up with your co-teacher.
Step 4: Wait longer
Step 5: Ask again.
Step 6: You'll hear something "maybe, sometime"
Step 7: Wait a little bit more.
Step 8: Feb 28th. Sit back and watch as your co-teacher, V.P, and Educ. Dept people run around like headless chickens, demanding that you do things "now, now, hurry".

Seriously, these people don't know what they're doing next week - you're asking the impossible to have them planning for next year.

Like two or three months before--Decemberish for you I guess. The pay scale hasn't changed in four years BTW.

It's a game of cat and mouse. If you can't get a straight answer there's a good chance that you should look elsewhere, This programs extremly badly organised. Most of the supervisers have a very poor understanding of western culture. On more than one occaision teachers have been led on that everything is O.K. only to find out when there is only a few days left that their contracts won't be renewed

But your pay will go up 100K p/m if you re-sign, upto a max of 2.5.
Please correct me if I am wrong!

EPIK policy is to wait until the absolute last minute as far informing you that your contract will not be renewed.

As I said before it's easy. You lay down your terms and conditions. Give them a time limit. Make sure on the deadline that you do go and speak to them. If they say not sure, not ready, no, ???? or anything other than yes. Start looking for another job.

Start looking anyway just to be sure.

My EPIK contract ends in 30 days and they still haven't told me anything yet. Is this typical?

Yes.

Ask them for the money to pay for your ticket home. Tell them that the ticket has to be paid in 48 hours or your reservation gets canceled.

That should start the ball rolling (one way or another).
