Recently, reading a National Geographic article about pandas, I came to a conclusion that pandas dont deserve to be saved from extinction. Here are a few reasons:
1. They are overpriced. because of their "cute" factor, they draw lots of crowds to zoos. Yet, despite huge crowds, tshirt sales etc zoos never break even. It takes millions of dollars to take care of pandas, funds that could go to saving other species.
2. More compelling though is the fact that when a mother panda gives birth to twins, she coldley abandons a baby and takes care of the other. Why should we save species that are so cold hearted? Despite a cute appearance, pandas are monsters inside.
Let them perish. |

This is a legitimate question. Dont like it? Take a hike.
1. This is not inflammatory.
2. This is not a sensitive subjct. |

I voted yes. Not because I think that pandas are worth saving in themselves, though I think all should be, but because saving them means looking after the habitat they live in.
Most flagship species are not keystone species in their habitat, this means that if they disappear, little will change in the habitat. However, panda's marketability is what makes them good species to present to Joe and Jane Public so you can look after a large piece of dirt. Joe and Jane have little interest in nematodes, soil bacteria, and fungus, the real drivers of biology, so you cant sell it to them.
Few species will abandon offspring without good reason. Pandas are programed to do so as they survive on a very low quality diet in the wild, and have few resources for offspring. Attempting to raise two is likely to result in the death of both.
Much harsher, to the minds of many, is the obligate siblicide strategy used by some species. Pelicans are a case in point. Most nests have two offspring. One hatches a little earlier and gets all the food it needs, and grows quickly. If there is enough food to support both, then the first is never hungry and the second grows at almost the same rate. This can result in two healthy offspring, leading to two fledglings.
However, if the eldest spends much time hungry, it will kill its sibling, ensuring it gets all the food. This makes sure that if there is only enough food for one, one makes it, and not two nearly making it. Nearly making it means dead.
Morals are a human invention, and have nothing to do with how the other animals go about their daily lives.
Dolphins, with their cute smiles, are another group of species that seem to show no morals as we understand them. Rape and murder are not uncommon in dolphin communities. This does not mean we should allow them to become extinct, through either carelessness or deliberate action.

jinju thinks they should be 'warm-hearted'...you explain that human characteristic to a panda. How about telling crocodiles that going after the runt or lamest one of a herd isn't really nice?
Second, he thinks that spending half of the yearly salary of a professional athlete to save some pandas isn't justified. Well, I would give up watching anyone to save a panda even for a year. Even more, as when they aren't on the court or field, they are costing society money trying all of their court cases.
People have been known to abandon their babies. Many people aren't warm hearted. People cost a lot of money (welfare, unemployment, etc...) and many never break even with society.
Antagonistic.v3.0 needs an update. |

Pandas are too cute. I'm a guy and I love pandas. How can you not smile when you see "baby panda" videos on YouTube?
Plus all they do is sit around and eat Bamboo. Watching a Panda eat bamboo is awesome. |

Hate is a strong word, though you seem to use it for dislike or even when you dont care for something.

Are there any mental help places we can send posters before they go off the rails?
I mean jinju clearly needs help. Time the community acted to protect him from himself and everyone concerned.
Ah, a last question. Should jinju be preserved? |

Pandas have been known to engage in homosexual behaviour. God hates pandas. End of story. |

You are making light of a very important issue: species conservation. Not all species deserve to be saved. Evil pandas do not, in my opinion. |
