Hey guys

Now after reading all kinda of mixed reviews on the SLP schools I'm a little hesitant to accept a job from the following school:

Name: SLP (Sungbuk)
Location Seoul, Sungbuk-gu

Accomodation Single
Distance from School 25 minutes
Age Group Kindergarten / Elementary
Class Size 10
Class Length 40 minutes
Working Days M - F
Schedule of Hours 12:45 - 20:40
Base Hrs / Week 120 hrs / month
Salary 2.0 million
Overtime Rate 16,000 won / month
Severence Pay One Month
Vacation Days 10 days
Sick Leave 3 days
Health Insurance 50%

Now what set off an alarm is that they need someone there for Oct 31. So I'm wondering if perhaps another teacher left because of poor working coditions.

Has anyone heard/worked/ or know anything about this particular branch? I asked that because I have read some branches being ok to work at. If anyone can provide any insight I would be most incredibly thankful.

Cheers,

Post the labor contract so we can have a look at it here.

I think it should be a little higher than 2.0 for that. And the distance from the school to the apartment is a bit far. But otherwise, a very mediocre contract.

As you may or may not know, the above information isn't a labor contract. There's no mention of pension which is a red flag and no mention of paid sick leave. The monthly salary is crappy and you could shoot for higher than 2,100,000 Korean Won.

When it comes to SLP my only comment is

The job offer is not the contract.

READ THE CONTRACT CAREFULLY BEFORE you sign on the dotted line.

Be aware that most SLPs contract you for up to 23 classes of 80 minutes per class PER WEEK ...

You should also be aware for example that public schools contract 22 classes per week for the same (or more) salary - SLP= TWICE the classroom time for the same money. Most hakwons contract for 30 classes of 50 minutes - still 25% less time in front of the class for the same money.

Then there are the other issues to worry about.

.

I don't know... I just signed a contract working in Seongbuk myself with a different school. I'll work less hours a day and earn more pay than you, with an apartment only 3 buildings away from the school. I'd keep looking if I were you.

I worked for TWO SLPS..... i learned my lesson... quit working the last one...they will use all kinds of excuses to get u out before ur contract ends...supervisors are insanely psychatic without any REASONING at all ! u can get fired on the spot....they think they are GODS.....

do not MAKE A MISTAKE..... they change ur working conditions later on seeing it fit to PARENTS and students complain only!!

SLP's are fine dude. Like any place, you might end up at a school wth a great boss or a sucky one. For the love of God don't sign anywhere for 2.0. I made that mistake and cursed myself and the school every day of my first contract. They'll pay you 2.2 easy, don't take any less.
