I'm moving to Daegu a few weeks, and I wanna find a good gym within days of getting there. I want a gym that has plenty of free weights, a good selction of dumbells and a squat rack. I know it's a long shot, but an olympic lifting platform would really get my juices flowing.
Any ideas?

I've been to 3 gyms....all pretty much the same..free weights...usually a 'smith rack' I think that is what they are called for squats..etc.
some of the machines seem to be built for smaller people (umm...most koreans smaller...than foreigners...that is shorter...trying to be politically correct.)...the one's I have been to have been basically the same.... |

There are two gyms I know of in Jisan Dong. One is accross the street from the DongA in the Tae Sung City World building... its on the 6th floor. The other is just around the corner a bit, and its owned by a former bodybuilding champion of Korea.
They are both quite close to each other.
The california fitness gym is accessible from Jisan Dong by taking the 814 bus, and getting off at Bomo Intersection. |

You'll probably be able to find something. Your best bet is to find a group of Koreans who know the fitness scene fairly well.
It took me 6 gyms and over a full year, but I finally found a gym in my city (Yeosu, no less) that even encourages my powerlifting. You shouldn't have problems in Daegu. |

In the Jisan-dong area is Dong-A Sports Center. From Dong-A Department Store, walk west about 5 minutes and you'll see the large complex in the middle, where the westbound and eastbound lanes begin to fork. |

There is another really good one near Susung Lake (Susung Mot). It's called Susung Hawaii. The outside resembles a greek/roman styled building.
They have a great selection of free weights and a good squat rack.
Little more expensive than others , though. |
