Generally I tell people not to come due to the short term only benefits of doing so. The experience gained here is a hard sell back in the world. Your options are saving money and leaving perhaps to somewhere like Thailand to own a business. You can have a life here if you want but when marrying a local is the best way to advance, you need to admit defeat.
In the past I have commented on a neglected field of accent reduction in ESL. I didn't get many responses - I'm not sure why - people don't care, people don't know or people don't like me but none the less, I persisted.
I got an email from one of the largest accent reduction in the US telling me they want an office they want a presence in Korea and if I can get corporate clients, they "would be there for me".
English lessons are fine but in the end, even people that do well in classes and tests sound like crap. None of the ESL books I work with address this. None.
To be true, accent reduction in this sense isn't really accent reduction, its accent accession and in this case its a California accent accession.
Back to the point, opportunities are rare here and this looks like a new and virgin place for growth albeit on my own sweat equity.
I'll look into it but I think already running into local turf obstination. Maybe this will work out with me just another teaching-like job instead of being a
partner. And in that case it'll just be a case of hard feelings and revenge when I get back to my turf.
In a place thats free of advancement, this is about the best I can come up with. |
