|
|
My very good Irish friend and his Korean girlfriend were up in Seoul today and decided to eat dinner at 3 Alley Pub. He's been a customer for 2-3 years there and has ever had anything but good things to say about the place and their service. Today, however, was an exception.
The waitress asked them in English what they would like to order; he ordered a cheeseburger for himself and an order of salmon for his girlfriend (she doesn't eat beef). The waitress asked how they wanted the salmon cooked, the girlfriend tried to explain in Korean but the waitress would only hear English (kind of odd behavior for a Korean I think).
Anyways, about an hour later, their food order comes back - burger for my friend, and a STEAK for his gf. He tried to explain that this was the wrong order, but the waitress would not hear of it. He was wrong and she was right. Didn't matter that his girlfriend would not eat steak, and had ordered salmon.
So he asked to see the manager. A young guy in his late 20's/early 30's comes out and tells them that they are wrong and the waitress is right, this is what they ordered. My friend said they ordered salmon, no way they were paying for a steak, and he wanted to talk to the owner.
Young guy's words: "I AM THE OWNER!" (said with a huge sneer)
At this point they were told to leave the restaurant.
My friend hadn't even finished his drink.
How embarrassing is that for the customer?
So instead they went to Outback Steakhouse, but were not happy at all with the way they were treated at 3 Alley, and it pretty much ruined the rest of their day in Seoul.
Is customer satisfaction so hard to achieve around here? |

Evidently. Thanks for the warning, OP. Many will avoid that place. |

not sure if the tall, rude, german *beep* still owns 3 alley but he ran the place like a prison. patrons had to get permission from said german *beep* owner simply to speak to the bar staff, many of whom were quite attractive. he wasn't a young guy though so this may be a new owner. none of this surprises me at 3 alley. i'd much rather drink at the seoul pub. ironically enough, the said german *beep* owner from 3 alley is the brother in law of the guy who owns seoul pub. these two guys have quite a history from what i understand.
a good night out in itaewon=
1. dinner at a local korean restaurant
2. drinks at seoul pub
3. live music at the black cat
4. a good late night drunken shag if you've managed to hook up
always worked for me. later. |

I knew gunter, wouldnt say he is a friend of mine but I drunk with him a couple times. I knew him from seoulpub too, I always knew what kind of business he ran. so I would only ever go there becuase I was meeting friends and they like it there.. or I would drop by there when showing new arrivals to itaewon let them make up their own minds if thats a place they want to drink at.. basically drink your beer and leave! dont get into problems with the staff... ive seen gunter lose it on patrons, ive seen waiters be rude, and nothing happens.. fact is funny.. doesnt matter how bad you treat someone they keep coming back! and GUNTER was like..
if you dont like it dont come here.. fact is 95% of the people put up with and keep buying drinks! now that he has left. the new owner will probably run the bar into the ground! becuase they expect that behavior from GUNTER but not from this new guy! so gunter got out at the right time again! the new owner is no MR JUNG either.. AVOID 3 ALLEY unless you are on the dart or pool league, or you like the quiz nights.. there are better bars to go than that.. still alittle hard to find customer service in korea.. seems if you treat you like s h i t you keep coming back anyway!
so they keep doing...and you guys keep going back with your heads down |

the german man just might like authority and granted rules may shock, but...........i have many german friends in thailand who own bars and they do NOT display the arrogance that is gunther. in fact, quite the antithesis.
in the bar business that shit just doesn't fly. happy to hear that gunther is gone. gunther would do better running a "rip your ass off oil company".
let's call it like it is.
and...i don't mean to make this thread a "bash gunther" thread. but the guy is a *beep*. god forbid if has purchased a bar in pattaya, which i have heard through the grapevine. his attitude will sink him silly in that town. arrogance just isn't tolerated in the city of sin.
thailand is the epitomy of tolerance. and that's why many of us would all rather be there than in the ROK. |

I'm more than a little confused by this post. First it says Thailand 'is the epitome of tolerance' but it also says that Gunther's kind of behavior is not tolerated. Which is it?

yataboy,
the door won't hit my ass because i won't be found anywhere near 3 alley.
and.. the OP didn't mention thailand, i did. your mix match of semantics was a good stab but nonsensical my friend.
stay in your own neighborhood. you'll get better service that way. |

Excellent. Korean girl will only hear English and interprets "salmon" as "steak". Even in Itaewon Koreans are hopeless at English. She should be tossed into the 일본해.
And for future reference, put arrogant Krauts firmly in their place with good old Basil Fawlty. |
