A couple months ago, I googled Natalee Holloway to see if there'd been any developments in her missing person case. She was a blonde cheerleader from Alabama who went missing in Aruba a few years ago due to foul play. There was a huge media frenzy at the time, and two black guys were immediately arrested as patsies, but the media got a hold of it and the police had to actually work. They narrowed the suspects down to a few playboys that probably drugged her at a bar and raped her. The popular theory is that she died from an overdose and one of the rapists (whose father is a prominent judge in Aruba...) disposed of her body.

The media was criticised for spending so much time on Natalee because she was white. People wondered that if she wasn't blonde, white, and middle-class, how much attention would have been paid. Either way...

Over the past few days, there have been some major developments. The suspect, Joran, whose father a judge, has been caught on a spy-cam confessing. He's been arrested and released three times in the last three years. Joran was befriended by an undercover reporter to whom he confessed.

It's going to air in Holland in a couple hours, and then it will be picked up in North America a few hours later. For anyone who has followed the story, it's probably going to give some definitive answers.

Here's the blog that I've been following. It's written by someone on the search vessel "Persistence." This ship that has been doing computer surveys of the ocean bed around Aruba with high-tech sonar gear. They're funded by some wealthy donors and from missing person charities.
