|
|
Has anyone ever switched visas? I did a search on Dave's but answers were muddled.
I came here on the standard E2. I realize now I can apply for the F4.
I can do this on my own, right? Do I have to tell my employer? I'm NOT planning to leave my current job or anything. I'm really happy there. But there seems to be more benefits and "protection" under the F visa.
Anyone been through this specifically? I'd welcome any PMs on this. |

Yeah, probably should as your boss would no longer be your visa sponsor. |

I switched from an E-2 to a F-2 visa when I was getting ready to leave one of my jobs. I didn't tell the employer until after it was done. You might take into consideration what your relationship is with your employer. |

When I switched from an E2 to a F2, I did everything for the visa and did not tell my boss until it was time to renew my contract. He mentioned going to immy and I said I didn't need to and that I had changed my visa to a F2. He had no problems with it at all. Nothing changed between us. I could see that some bosses would be upset or try to cut your benefits. |

So immy doesn't contact the employer even though they are the current visa sponsors? |

If that's the case, just keep it under your hat then.
They prove to be w-s,walk.Smell ya later!..........................................................................................................."Wait,it's a misunderstanding!!"
I'm curious though, with an F4 does anyone function as your sponsor,or do you own your visa?Does where your family live matter? |

From what I understand I act as my own sponsor, which is why I am still leaning toward telling my employer about switching. Why hide it, you know? I've every intention of honoring my contract with them. But all I know is that I qualify because I was born here, and am half Korean, and I have my naturalization papers with me. |

You're only a bit into your contract,I'd keep it under my hat if I were you.
Just leave it be
Work as normal, sure, but work longer first. |

Hold it as your card. If things go wrong at the job you can walk without all the restrictions pertaining to having your living in Korea sponsored by your present employer. You are now free of that with the F4. You are your own master. |

Your spouse is your sponsor on an F-2. |

Your employer is probably wondering why you DON'T have an F-4.
Definitely get it as fast as possible. |
