OK, contract is almost up and it's round two for jobs. I "thought" I was being smart by bringing 3 copies of my diploma which where notarized by the Korean embassy back home. Here's the "saga":
Copy #3- School told me they lost the copy I had sent when applying for the job, so they needed a new one.
Copy #2- Government needed yet another copy when I was getting my Visa (School assured me I'd get it back. Then a couple days later, they told me, "Sorry, you won't be getting it back.")
Copy #1- My prized possession right now.
So does anyone know if I can make some copies of this thing and get them notarized in Korea? And where it can be done?
Or am I going to show up at some government office and have some ajusshi doing that weird inhaling/slurping thing like I just asked him to explain string theory? |

The copies that are acceptable to immigration can only be obtained at the Korean consulate in the country where the university is located.
You will have to get more from home or use your original and make sure you get it returned.
The only place that needs a certified copy (or the original for that matter) is the immigration office and they return it immediately - they do NOT hold on to the original. It is only necessary when you apply for a new visa and NOT for an extension (if you stay at the same employer).
Everyone else can just use a photocopy and it does not need to be consulate certified or notarized. |

Thanks for the reply ttompatz. Well, this wasn't what happened with copy #2. Like I said, I was told I would get it back. You know, I was pretty adamant that I needed it back. After I was assured by my school it would be returned, they told me the government would be keeping it. Big surprise for something like that to happen in Korea right?!
Well, if I can apply for jobs with copies of the diploma, then submit the notarized version later, then that will work out. I just have to guard this thing with my life. |
