Te Qaeda?

On one hand, I really hope the police are wrong about this... that NZ doesn't have this sort of stuff going on. But on the other what if they were right?

Tama Iti has been a threat to national security for a long time. He should have been hung for shooting the NZ flag with a shotgun a few years back. You'll get a lot of his supporters saying what an intelligent, educated and inspiring man he is but personally I think he's just another barbaric radical a few kumara short of a hangi.

I've met Tama Iti twice. He is one of the most softly spoken, calming people I know and despite appearances, is far from scary. He IS intelligent, educated and inspiring and until you say you've sat down and discussed politics with him YOURSELF, I'll lump you in the same category as the printed media which predictably stigmatize him as a threat for his appearance (moko) and political spunk..

Shooting, burning or destroying a national flag should be protected free expression/free speech. He didn't harm anyone by doing it (I have no idea who the guy is, either).

Running around with napalm, and molotov cocktails, and shotguns, while wearing camoflage is hardly 'calming' behaviour.

I agree, look in the states during the 60's 70's countless americans burned their own flags! and protested against their governments!
they are still patriotic though!

the guy is trying to get attention trying to get heard!

Can you prove it was him? Or are you just believing what the reporters say? Like I said, he is targeted frequently by the media. Numerous times he his photo has been randomly included in articles related to political dissent when in fact he was not even involved. One time the NZ Herald used his photo for a protest in the far North when he was in fact in Wellington that day 0_0

He has a record of uncivil behaviour as long as as cricket bat. Activists have their place in society but I just can't sympathise with Tama Iti due to his antisocial actions - spitting, flashing his naked butt at people, shooting flags in crowded ceremonies.

I guess the next few days will show if he is truly a 'calming' character or the new Osama Bin Laden of Aoteoroa.

Discharging a firearm in a public place with people around when you don't have a firearms license. He was not charged with destroying a flag

What can I say? I'm a fan of irony.

I might get a new one if Tama Bin Laden gets booked for WMDs (Weapons for Maori Demonstrators)

Hehe, you just reminded me of all the bad jokes that went around after the Twin Towers blitz. i.e there were many relatives of the Osama Bin Laden family that lived in Auckland - Osama bin sleepin, Osama bin drinkin, and Osama bin fightin, but the whereabouts of Osama bin workin were unknown.
