Hi folks..
Anyone have an opinion, advice on what is a good photo editing software?
Also, i don't wanna spend a grand on the latest version of Adobe Photoshop...

What do you use?
Thanks!

I shoot RAW so I use Lightroom and then GIMP. If I were just shooting JPG, I'd probably stick with GIMP.

Gimp, I've heard it's quite good...
Is it "user-friendly" and not going to break the bank?
cheers!

I like PhotoSuite by Roxio. It's $30 and is a great program, but then, I've never tried the free ones.

i use adobe bridge for my workflow and photoshop for my editing.

bridge comes free with photoshop and photoshop is *cough* free *cough* when you use nefarious means to acquire it via bit torrent.

gimp is also very good ... and genuinely free.

not a big fan of lightroom.

but if you're shooting raw, you definitely need a bigger program to handle the nef files. you can use microsoft's free raw file viewer, but it's slow as hell.

i agree with atavistic, if you're shooting jpgs then use gimp.

for the Photoshop veterans trying to give GIMP a try, i believe there is a skin for GIMP which mimics Photoshop's naming convention and menu style. i believe you should be able to google the skin quite easily.

i'm new to DSLR photography and i tried the GIMP out for the first time last night! lot's of stuff to fool around with! i came up with some cool effects for my photos...
i'm just wondering if there are any "hidden" effects in the program or specific tools that you like to use??
i'm just looking for ideas!
cheers!

it's called gimpshop ... i haven't used it because i think (and i could be wrong) that the version is quite old and hasn't been updated for a while.

if there's an updated skin that works with the new version of gimp, then i'd be keen to have a look at it in action.

speaking of actions, that's one of the reasons i like photoshop. i have all my usual tasks preset as actions. i have a sharpening mask, a few brightness and contrast settings, borders and frames, things like that. it's much easier when i can automate a few mundane processes and speed up my workflow!
