I am on the lookout for a prepaid cell phone. Y'know, the one that comes in the plastic box, with the card. The type that has X amount of minutes for Y amount of Won. The minutes get reloaded when you purchase another card.

If you have one for "sale" or know where I can find one, I would be most appreciative.

They don't come as "prepaid phones" in a plastic box. Any phone can be used as a prepaid / card phone.

Any and every phone shop in the country will sell you a phone and put it on a prepay system.

Just walk in and ask for a card phone.

Shop around for used phones at the nearest phone shop (starting as low as 30k won + cash for your talk time) or get a new one if your budget allows it.

You will need your passport and cash.

Nno, unless you want to use it as a very expensive "international roaming" phone with your US number.

You can't get a Korean number for it.

Go to any SK/KTF/LG phone store near a university or high school. They will have used pre-paid phones for sale. The place near my home will sell me a used Samsung phone (not pretty, but worked fine) for 35,000 won. They didn't even care to register it with me. They just kept the previous registration.

Ask for "Chewn-go Card Phone."

You can also check out Techno-Mart on the upper floors at Gangbyeon station (Green Line) in East Seoul. Very easy to see it next to the subway (the tall building with "PRIME" on the top, and a big TM logo). They have thousands of phones there. The Youngsan Electronics market is also good.
