What visa does a full time foreign university professor have in Korea? I've read various things on here, from "it's just an E-2, dummy.." to it's a completely different visa. Does anyone know????
Thanks! |

I've also heard that University Profs and College Profs can only get E-1 if they possess a Masters. |

Apparently it's meant to mean Ph.D holders, but I know a few MBAs who have E-1 visas. I can't imagine they'd give them out (intentionally, I mean; I've heard of mistakes) to those with just BAs. |

What a bunch of bull. First, there are only 2 kinds of universities in Korea. National and public. Second, it is not legal to hire part time foreign faculty. Thus, all native speakers are full time. I have never heard of a part time native spaeaker in any teaching position in Korea k-12 college, university. |

There's an ad here on Dave's right now advertizing for a foreign, tenure track, full time professor...I think it's for Seoul Natinal University, but I'm not sure.
There's another ad asking for applicants with Master's but says applicants are also accepted from BA holders... |

So, according to koreanhearld in 2007 there were only 22 full time foreign professors in Unis in Korea and according to Korea times in 2006 there were 2,540????
What happened in just one year to 2,538 foreign professors? Did they rapture? And without me?
With all the universities in Korea and each having from one to several native speakers we know the 22 number is a big fat lie. And if we are talking about foreign professors as in French French Professors, Chinese Chinese professors, etc. and not just native speakers of English, I taught at a university that had over 22 full time foreign professors. And I imagine the same is true for my new University. So, there we have 44. |
