I work for a public school. I pay half the insurance thing I guess. But I know nothing about what doctor to go to if something happens or where a doctor is. I also would like to get my teeth cleaned. Does insurance pay for that? Do you have to go to a specific doctor/dentist like in America's hmo's?
thanx

You can go to any doctor or dentist. They will tell you if the procedure you need is covered by insurance or not. You don't need an appointment. Just mosey in and tell the receptionist what you want.

Think of insurance as subsidy towards the actual cost of hospital/doctor treatment. Not sure about dentists, as I haven't had to visit one here yet. I think pricey.

My wife went to hospital for a 7 days and had her appendix removed, after a few CT scans at another hospital.
CT scans and stuff, 200K+.
7 days and an operation at another hospital (less waiting time for operation), cost us about 500K, but the price without insurance would have been 1.5 million.

I got an xray of my leg done last year, 23K. I never had insurance then, but if I had it would have cost me about 6K.

To get your teeth scaled it should cost around 60,000 won. As Ya-ta said, it isn't covered by insurance.
