hello there,
I am currently searching for a job in Korea. I'm trying my best to do as much research as I can for each position that I am interested in.

Has anyone heard of CnB Education Group?

Once again, does anyone have any information about Parkenglish?

I have posted about Parkenglish before but I though I would combine all my questions into one thread instead of creating different threads for each question.

If a teacher has 3 years of experience what salary should one expect these days?

What jobs are preferred, Public school or Hogwans?

If I think of more questions I will post them to this thread..

Cheers

Your best bet is to read through the FAQs and stickies.

Then go to google or another search engine and search the site through that. i.e., search for "eslcafe.com" and "wages"

Read through a few pages of headlines in the job discussion forum. You answers are there.

Without any research I'm going to say...

About 2.4 mil (maybe more) at a good Hagwon.
The public school thing pays a little less and you need blah blah and blah to go up the pay-scale.

The hagwon or public school debate is one that is unresolved. I have not met someone who has disliked their public school gig. There are, however, some people on Dave's who have complained about co-teachers, principals and bad classes. Hagwons - and I am basing my opinion here on a lot of reading and my own personal experiences - are more often disappointing and you have to work more hours... but the classes are usually 1/4 the size of classes in public school.

For me, if I can find a really good hagwon for next year, I will be going for it, but at the moment I'd like to work at a public school and not be so concerned about money.

if you want the best of both world's, try working at an After School Program inside the Public Schools...small classes, minimal working hours and usually a set curriculum...

You posted a question about CnB just as I was doing a search on the whole job discussion forum for info on that school!

I don't know anything about them, but I'm weary of high-wage positions. I had to leave a contract because of health issues, but I was also just toppled over by work. The prep to contact hours ratio was terrible. It was all very legitimate, everything was in the contract, I just didn't take into account what I could actually handle when I signed it because I was blinded by the high wage.

Its not easy to leave a job in Korea. I think the 'less money for manageable hours' plan is the absolute wisest. With CnB they quote 6 hours a day, but I want to know how many of those hours are in the classroom and how many are prep. If 6 hours doesn't involve prep time, then you're looking at a much longer work week.... Thats ok, so long as you're ready for it.

Luckily, with 3 years experience, you know how much time you need to get your work done. By the way~~ why don't you work for a university? They pay very well for the amount of work they want. Also, many of them offer long enough vacation in the summer and winter to work at camps and make more money.

Good luck!

remember with CnB you are also working on Saturday's....6 days a week, and they are without prep, so thats about 8 hours a day...i wouldn't do it personally...but it pays well...

Where do you find postings for this program?

What is the salary like for these types of postings?

Thanks again for your information

I have been looking into the UNIV jobs but a lot of them these days you need a Masters degree. I'm sure there are jobs out there where a B.A would do just fine. The long vacation time is an attractive feature of a univ job but just concerned about the salary.

Thanks for the post..

Cheers

I really don't mind a long work week if everything is stated in the contract. I haven't heard anything back from them yet but I will keep you posted if I find out more information.

I did a search through google and the forums here but couldn't find any detailed infomation about the school. If you find out more information please post it here... thanks again

Cheers..
