The story can be read here -

Personally, I think it's arrogant and presumptuous for these American and Australian protesters to go to Japan, a soveriegn nation and telling them they can't eat whales that are fished from their own waters.

Makes it embarrassing to be a 'westerner' imo. Going round telling other countries what they can or can't eat because you have an emotional attachment to the animal.

Brigette Bardot in particular and her rabid, vehemant diatribes against Koreans eating dogs when the Frecnh eat horses, springs to mind.

One of those situations where I can't identify with either side.

Why is that?

Do you think it's okay for the Japanese to eat whales or not...?

it is as wrong to cull dolphins in bloody bays to sell as a delicacy in Japan as it is wrong to put 7 year olds to work in India

yes it is about values and it isn't a relativistic stance of anything goes as long as it has been going on before somewhere

i applaud the protesters for raising awareness

making a difference is a slow and partial process

What do you mean by okay?

Okay morally? Okay legally? Okay financially?

Morally, meh. Can't make a case FOR it. Legally, sure its okay in Japan, I guess. Not sure if its a sustainable industry, although I'd bet anyone here that the ambergris gets shipped to the West.

Japanese whalers roam far from home to collect their "scientific samples" usually in the Antarctic, and ignoring a world-wide moratorium on whaling.

AS A NATION-STATE, JAPAN IS A MAJOR VIOLATER OF A FEW THINGS.

Good for the protesters, lest we forget.

Expected to be arrested & detained Idea
