What does it take to watch HD videos off of your computer hard drive?
I've downloaded a few documentaries to watch on my LCD tv through my computer and it just doesn't work like I was hoping... Seems like my computer's not up to the task. |

Your computer should be a Pentium 4 at 2.8ghz or higher (preferrably a Pentium 3.0 ghz minimum). You should have at least a gig of Ram for XP. 7200 RPM hard drive with at least an 8meg buffer is preferred.
No Celeron or Semperon chips.
Even Intel GMA 950 onboard graphics can run some of the compressed .wmv HD stuff, but older than that, the onboard chips don't cut it -- even for the compressed stuff. You should have a decent graphics card that's capable of larger HD files.
I can output VGA to my Plasma TV and run it that way.
Be careful of Vista for such things. It's a steaming turd of a program that purposefully downgrades the video quality to keep you from doing this with certain files. Copy protection at its finest. |
