High School Beating Video Sparks Outrage
Quote:

A video clip of a high school teacher beating two students with a bamboo sword has caused a stir among netizens.

In the 38-second video clip, a teacher is seen striking the hips of two students in a push-up position with the sword. When one student stands up, unable to endure the beating, the teacher follows him to strike his back.

The clip, recorded by a student with a mobile phone, has spread on the Internet. Netizens have voiced their outrage in message boards, saying the punishment was extreme.

"This is violence, not punishment," wrote a netizen. "The teacher's actions require criminal punishment."

But another said, "If a teacher can guide students better with corporal punishment, the teacher deserves praise rather than criticism."

Quote:
The principal of the school said, "The teacher apologized to the two students who were punished and the other students in the class. I am sorry for causing controversy and I have given the teacher a warning."

Yowsers, I loved the head shots he got in there are the end. I hope he feels like a big man now.

I wonder what they did.... probably didn't do their homework.

Wow. thats really shocking. I'm not completely against a little bit of physical punishment (stress positions, a flick of the ear, etc), but this teacher is nuts. What a shame the guy only got a warning. I wish teh tall student at the end had gotten up and punched the crap out of him.

Yeah, the student was taller and prob. stronger than him. I wish he had punched him too. Freakin' insane. My students just kind of shrugged it off, "that's what high school is like." They told me one student last year went blind when a teacher punched him in the eye. wtf.

Nah, the student is smart. Imagine what would happen to the kid if he had punched the teacher. Remember, this is Korea, folks.

Just watched the vid. Not sure that was a bamboo sword, to be honest.

The student would not have been able to endure as much as he did without screaming out if it was, especially with the force the teacher was using . Come on peeps, a bamboos sword would have left wealts!

Most of the sticks the K Teachers carry are made from rolled up cardboard actually.

Still there's no damn call for punishment like that, just suspend the kid and let his parents punish him.

Holy f==k!

I'm emailing this to everyone I know back home. This type of thing was common awhile back, but mostly now it's discourages in public schools. It does still happen tho, as we can see. This happens in hagwons too. One of my students had to go to the hospital because of beatings in from a Korean teacher in my old haggie.

The world need to know just what kind of people Koreans are.

I'm sure the students apologized too, yet it didn't do much to protect them.
Why does an apology protect you from criminal prosecution?

Seriosuly, though, do you really believe that was a 'bamboo sword?'

Maybe I'm wrong, but I imagine a 'bamboo sword' - ie a piece of tough bamboo deliberately chosen to be made into a weapon, thus be strong, flexible and pretty solid - would make the student scream out in agony, which he didn't.
