I have a few years old HP Pavilion laptop that I'm planning on replacing in a couple months with a desktop. It's a 2.8 Ghz Pentium with about 900 megs of RAM (but it moves kinda slow since I start using an extra monitor (my TV).

But now I'm in the situation where I need to do some basic video editing. I just need to make a short ten minute DVD with two video clips edited together and some still images thrown in, and maybe some music. I already have the videos. One is an Mpeg and the other Avi.

I'm very low on cash at the moment so any purchases will go on the credit card. Is it feasible to get a cheap external DVD burner and download some freeware for this project, or should I buy the new desktop a couple months ahead of schedule?

I don't do any gaming, but I do download a lot of TV from back home as well as some basic image editing (using GIMP) and other website-related stuff.

Would another option be to just go to a PC Bang and work on this? Do they have the software/hardware?

I don't think most would have dvd burners, though you could download the software in most cases.

External drives are both more expensive and slower than internal, so getting the new computer sooner would be the best.

That said, I'd avoid putting anything on your credit card you can't pay off during the first month. It's a surefire route to bankruptcy.

Buy a DVD burner (about 40k won at yongsan) and if you get the retail box it will come with video editing software AND DVD video burning software (usually power producer). An external case (USB) for it will run you about 20-30k won.

Thanks!

All food for thought. I'm kind of leaning towards buying the new computer even though I can't really afford it right now though. I need to look through some of the "what does 500,000 get you at Yongsan" threads and see what I come up with.

Think I could get similar prices at the Nambu Terminal electronics market? I live like 5 minutes away from it so would prefer to go there if possible.

The retail boxed DVD burner may be a few chunwon more but it would still be comparable to the prices in the I'Park mall above yongsan station.

You have to go to the parts places at the terminal or son-in plaza or nanjin arcade to get the best deals on stuff like this but for what you want the saving will be about the price of subway fare and coffee.

Sweet. You're right on. I'll check it out tomorrow. There's a place there that I've had repairs done before and I'm not entirely distrustful of of them so it could be a good place to start.
