How long is it going to take them to realize that the Hermit Kingdom is no longer.
The immigration issue is not an easy one, but the children of the workers could be the next generation of intelligence. |

Hypothetical situation: You are a young Korean man who has attained an undergraduate degree and an advanced degree at overseas universities. Now, you can return to Korea and work long hours (~70+ hours per week) and kowtow to every single superior, waiting on them hand and foot for the next 20 years until you've reached management age, or, you could remain in the outside world and enjoy the shorter working hours and other culture in the outside world. Unless tied down by a family that wants you in Korea, the choice would seem simple to me.
Now, imagine the female perspective, magnify the kowtowing by about 10 due to women being "lower on the totem pole" {I'm not joking, last summer I saw a totem pole-like structure at my local subway station with the man at the top, grandfather below him, then descending with the grandmother, mother, son, then daughter; it was classic Korean brainwashing with a caption at the bottom that read: Korea - 'Global inspiration'}
It's not hard to understand why more and more Koreans are living abroad and staying there in my view. |
