would like to land a uni. gig for next fall. US citizen, have a B.Ed, am fully certified, 15 years of experience, two years having been spent in seoul so i have had to ascertain E2 visas before (under the old guidelines).

plan: in the next couple of months i will....

get the criminal background checks.
diploma notarized by an apostle (sorry, couldn't help it).
head to seoul in july, all docs in hand ready to hit the pavement.

big question is this. do i have to have a job offer in hand in order to sit for the embassy interview? can i call the embassy and tell them that i will be going to korea to seek work and want to have the interview already under my belt before i leave (reason being that i don't want to fly to korea, land a gig, and then have to fly back to the US simply to meet Mr. Lee at the embassy for 30 minutes of bullshit and banter)?

wadda ya think? thanks.

BEd and certified with experience? Head to Hong Kong. Apply to the NET program. Better than anything you'll get in Korea. You can always come and visit.

Apparently, "crazy" and "chicken" seem to be referring to another thread. In that thread, BTSskytrain didn't say the new laws would be hassle-free. He was making the case that it wasn't the end of the world and that it would take some patience, and folks jumped on him for offering a different opinion. I defended the post because it seemed as if rabble were merely rabble-rousing rather than having a more civil disagreement. "crazy" has in no way scored a gotcha. Get over that thread dudes, and be big enough to answer the man honestly. What are you afraid of?

So browsing the immigration site you will come across a document outlining the new requirements. Among them are:

Quote:
- but E-2visa applicants who had been stayed in korea as professor(E-1), teacher(E-2), research(E-3) may apply for E2visa at the korean embassy or consulate in any abroad and don't need to be interviewed at the korean embassy or consulate in their country.

You can find the whole document here: http://www.immigration.go.kr/indeximmeng.html

It could mean that those currently on E series visas, but can also be read as those who have had one in the past do not need to be interviewed. I do believe you would be able to go on a visa run to Japan. It is my understanding that those applying for their first working visa must do it in their home country.

You could try to call them. I don't have the number handy, but will ask my administrative assistant tomorrow for the number and will send it your way.

Gary Cooper, it means that BTS was saying that he'd done all the stuff and that it was no big deal. HE LIED, SAYING THE PROCESS WAS OVER, AND IT WAS HASSLE FREE. Here he is saying that he's getting ready for it, THREE MONTHS LATER. Gotcha scored fair and square.

corky, it was never said nor implied that i had already gone through any of the new E2 visa process. i lied about nothing. the post was merely to suggest that, as Gary Cooper pointed out, the new laws weren't "the end of the world". reread the OP and get your facts straight. i'm curious as to what some you guys are scared of as well.

Yes we are referring to the thread where you said you had completed all of the requirments for the new Visa and you will see us at the embassy. Then a couple of months later you say you have not even started the process. You can't have it both ways.

kwangju,

show me in my original post exactly where i said that i had completed the new E2 visa process! saying that i would see you at the consulate certainly doesn't imply that i had completed the process. does it?

i simply didn't say that. kwangju and corky are simply talking out of their asses.

I believe the exact quote was:
Quote:
i'm done. take good care and i'll see ya at the consulate.

The post subject was "finished." See http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?p=1408954#1408954.

I suppose you meant that you were finished with that discussion. They're taking it to mean that you had finished the new visa process.
