For me, today, it's from some Belle and Sebastian song, where the dude sings
"I don't love anything. Not even Christmas. And if there's one thing that I learned, when I was still a child, it's how to be alone."
What about you all?

"Good people, in a bad place, trying to be good." , quoted from a drunk soldier in some dive joint here in South Korea.

"Koreans are farmers in suits: first world technology, third world mentality."

Describes Koreans exactly.

Another:

The biggest lesson I've learned here is how not to be a human being... Koreans are the ultimate provincials...

The moment you come to the conclusion that you were not hired to teach English here your life will become a whole lot easier.

Cog, right on. Is that your own quote? When I first arrived here I saw a tractor driving farmer in a 3 piece business suit. I knew it was time to swap my bib overalls for something better looking. Although, less comfortable, my current attire tends to lend credence to my stature.

I often think of the INXS song 'Kick' for some reason when thinking about the Korean experience, especially the line: "Sometimes you kick, sometimes you get kicked!"

A friend who taught here several years ago told me, "Korea may look Western on the outside, but it's decidedly Eastern on the inside."

MY experience can be summed up in sooooo many ways by something my taekwondo Master always says. "Go [Atavistic]-style! OK!"

"Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair or fucking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. "
