Got the following from my Dad:
Quote: |
I was really impressed by my new PC until I went to do a DVD of HD video recorded from TV Broadcast. After and hour it was only 1/2 done. the other computer would have taken all night. I could have ordered it with a special "Xcelerator" that off loads and speeds up video conversion... the computer was unusable during that conversion because the processing power was completely used up. |
That's all the info I have, so I can't really say but it sounds like he is having to compile the entire video before burning it. I don't have any experience with such things, so I don't know, but it seems like that should be unnecessary. Anyone know if there's a way around that so it goes faster? |

What software is he using to convert the video? You know his video is going to take a hit in picture quality by making it into a DVD.
I use winmenc to convert my movies from Full HD to normal quality and vice versa, and they usually take a few hours. You cannot use the computer at the same time as conversions like these are usually CPU intensive. Then you can use a DVD authoring program (any will do) to create your DVD movie.
I personally would use a home media player that plays from a HD than waste time on conversions or find a DVD player that already plays 720p/divx DVDs. |

That is where quad cores and lots of RAM really shine.
I can encode video from the camera,
write a different video to DVD
surf the net
and run Boinc full throttle
Without making coasters ..... all at the SAME time and with no noticeable slowdown.

Wow a moderator steps in.
Quad-cores are designed for this sort of thing, hence the "quad" action. |

It is a quad core.
Suggestions noted, thanks. |
