I'm just wondering if anyone is interested in investing in physical rare earths/base metals? I'm talking about pooling money and taking posession of metals/materials with a potential for growth. 5 years ago, rhodium was the same price as gold (then about $400/ounce), now the price is well over $6000/ounce.
There are some metals with some great growth potential as well. Maybe not as much as $6000/ounce but pretty damn good return. If you are interested, let me know. I'm looking for some partners to pool money and physically invest. I think there's some potential here. |

Sounds interesting.
I take it you're not talking about buying shares in companies that mine it, right? How would one go about buying the physical metals? What kind of investment are we talking about?
I'm also a little concerned about the ethics of buying such metals, especially if they are extracted in China, which may be causing incalculable environmental damage by cutting corners in their mining methods. |

Rare earths and base metals..........taking posession. I'm not too concerned about the ethics, because the Chinese are going to do it wether or not I'm involved. Investment in a few thousand $. |

how do you 'take possession'?
are there any problems or legalities to owning rare earth materials?
is there a guide of what rare earths or metals are around and their current values? |

No, no restrictions. Take posession means have it at your disposal. NEVER have someone store anything for you. As Citigroup Credit among others proves this last week or so! Anyway, at this point, I'm information shopping and getting anyone who's interested involved, such as sharing resources, (etc...)
There are resources to get the price, but for most of it, you have to subscribe to a service. Some are reasonable, some are outrageous. I guess it depends on how deep you are into it and how deep your pockets are. I'm thinking $10k-20k in the next year or so. Not deep pockets, but enough to maybe make a decent profit. PM me if you are interested. |
