Hi,

I want to know if anyone out there is involved in taekeondo, kickboxing, karate or any other martial art in my area of Seoul. I am living in Sillim not too far from Seoul National University on the green line. I am interested in joining evening sessions. I'd rather not practice with younger children, but instead adults and/ older teens with light sparring. Let me know what you know. How much do clases cost when and where?

Thanks and Cheers!

You're perhaps in the wrong forum. Search the other forums cus this has been covered. There are plenty of clubs around, but if you are on green line and want to train in kickboxing/jujitsu style, go for Gongkwonyusul - www.gongkwon.com they are on green line at sindang

the uni also has TKD classes you can join inexpensively

Last year I trained Kyokushin Karate in Sillim, but the Kwanjangnim moved to the US so I'll be looking for a new gym when I return in April. The training was great and I ended up fighting in competition, which was a new experience for me. There is another gym nearby in Doksan where I want to train. If you're interested in something a bit more hardcore than TaeKwonDo, like full contact Karate then contact me.

Check out the Dojang Directory on www.mooto.com . Otherwise, go for a walk around your neighbourhood. You are sure to find something.

Gongkwon is good, if you want to spend time on the subway.

How do you join the university classes?

I'm getting desperate. I need something to hit. I already do hapkido on weekends but I just want to do some sparring on the side, taekwondo would be fine. I can't read Korean so I can't see all the taekwondo dojos that are supposedly everywhere in the neighbourhood.

I think I'm starting to topple into the 'I hate being a foreigner in Korea' phase. Need... release... nowww...

There should be a TKD or hapkido school on every corner.
Go to a Korean place with a Korean teacher and learn martial arts in Korean. You'll learn more than 'fighting'.

Hey! I found a cool one not far from Sillim. It does mixed martial arts (Brazilian Ju-Jitsu) and Hap-kido. The sensei (sabanim) is a 30 year-old 6 degree hap-kido guy who is more into ju-jitsu now and competitive MMA. If interested I can get the address and phone #. Its been good so far. Its hard and I got some sweet bruises to show my kindergardeners! Cheers.

can you help me find the place that you're talking about.

- a question about the training:

I am athletic and wrestled when I was a younger man, but am very green in any other martial arts. Do you think the 6 degree black belt would understand that there is a learning curve and even though I look capable, I am not at all yet?
