I looked through the E-2 guidelines thread numerous times to try to find this answer. Many people posed the question but it was never answered.

What charges on your criminal background check will disqualify you as a teacher? I am guilty of a DWI. I understand what I did was not intelligent. You dont have to remind me of this. However, this does not mean that I am incapable of being a legitimate teacher. Will I be denied of a visa for this charge? Does anyone have any experience with this matter? Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.

Thank you Smile

Could be anything. And the policy is not uniformly enforced. So, one immigration officer having a bad day after not getting his requisite kimchi, might reject you. ANYTHING is fair game for the ridiculous visa process. Even if you got a DUI 10 years ago, you'll probably be rejected. Ever done any shoplifting and gotten caught? Even if it was 20 years ago, you'll most likely be rejected. Nobody can give you the answer because each immigration office has different interpretations(ie most not even knowing what the charges are because their englishee is non-existent) and completely at the whim of the immigration officer that holds your application package. Like everything in Korea, it's a crapshoot.
