I've not heard anything about it but everyone is making it sound like it's the end of ESL in Korea as we know it.
Can someone sum up what is happening please. |

you have not heard anything but everyone is talking about. How do you know if they are talking about it if you have not heard them? |

All I've heard is people mentioning how the E-2 visa changes are going to stop people coming in and how people already here will be affected. Nobody has mentioned why. |

The E-2 visa is not changing...
Its not the end of ESL in korea as we know it...
The world may end in 2012....
Just the process of getting the E-2 visa is changing (the requirements)....
does the OP live in a vacuum?? there have been so many threads on new laws, police checks, etc etc on this site durind the last 2~3 weeks...
how about check out some of the threads and read the info .......?
although you may as just wait another 2 weeks until the actual policies are published...
at the moment - its just all talk....
It has already been covered here -
Its has already been covered here -

1) There will be no more VISA runs to Japan. All VISAs must be obtained in the teachers' home countries.
2) VISA will not be renewable in Korea. At the completion of one year, if the teacher decides to stay at their current school, they must return to their home country and obtain their VISA there. ...
I have already handed over what Chachee99 wrote - to the relevant authorites - to have it checked...
at the moment we are still waiting for a response - but so far have been told THIS WILL NEVER BE IMPLEMENTED because it will cause an outroar from UNI's, Hagwons, Private Institutes etc - who seem to have more power here than government officials...
so just wait 1~2 weeks - and we will find out exactly what is the outcome and the NEW laws and I will publish it here...

I knew a couple here that were firm believers in this 'theory' of the world ending in 2012. They explained it to me at a party one evening, with all the severity as if discussing the Holocaust.
Perhaps it was the alcohol, but they became fairly irate when I started laughing uncontrollably. |

The world will end on December 12 2012, the mayans calendar has predicted this and has not gone past this date. Thier calendar is far more sophisticated then ours. I as well watch to much discovery. |

Most of the replies to this thread have been very unhelpful.
There is a lot of scaremongering going on about this. It doesn't help anyone. The OP probably (like me) just wants some info so they can plan for the future.
As far as I know, come Dec 1st teachers looking to get an E2 visa will need an official criminal record check in addition to all the usual documents.
The visa renewal issue is unconfirmed at the moment as far as I know. My guess is visa renewals won't have to go home to get it done.
As far as I know, the issue of whether we have to travel to a Korean embassy in our home country pror to obtaining an E2 visa is also unconfirmed.
The interview thing would be a real problem for me. The criminal record check I can get done pretty easily. But if for example I was in Thailand, and I wanted to go teach in Korea I would have to return to the UK first.
Highly inconvenient.
Does anyone have any more info on the interview thingy please.
Oh and please post useful and helpful posts only. No snarky or sarcastic posts please. Nobody likes a smart alec!!!!!!!
p.s the information on other threads is not 100% clear. Some posters who ar enot in the know really need a nice clear unambiguous answer to all this.
cheers |

some people just don't get it....
TODAY is 2007-11-07....
The government will not publish their new laws/policy until after 2007-11-12...
so people should relax and wait one more week.....
then people will know what all the answers are....
but please stop filling up this board with - tell me now! I need to know! threads... until after 2007-11-12 |
