...convertor a good guide to what I will receive in pounds at the other end (in the UK)?
It certainly wasn't for USD travellers cheques: about 60,000 won differnece if I remember correctly. Sorry, but I am completely lost when it comes to these kinds of things.

It'll be roughly right.
You can always go to http://www.keb.co.kr/main/en/
which is Korean Exchange Bank... they don't have a converter but you can see the rate for different things. |

If you are sending money home then you want the send remittance
column which may also be labeled send T/T.
The best deal I've found so far is to buy a bank check from KEB.
I buy mine in dollars, but I assume you will want pounds. |
