| Cancer Research UK says those wanting to lose weight should: eat at roughly the same time each day; eat reduced fat foods; walk for 60-90 minutes a day; pack a healthy snack; check labels for fat and sugar; watch portion size; stand up for 10 minutes of each hour; choose water over squash; eat slowly; eat five portions of fruit and vegetables a day. |
Women's weight linked to 6,000 cancers a year in new study
I found that bit about eating roughly the same time each day interesting. I'd never heard that piece of advice before. Also the bit about standing up for 10 minutes of each hour.
I'm a bit concerned about my kids getting fat, as all the kids I see around these days seem much plumper than when I was a kid. I looked at my class photo from when I was 9 years old, and the fat boy doesn't look like a fat boy anymore - he looks normal! And we all look like 9 year old famine victims!
I suppose then, I should get them into a strict routine of eating the same time everyday, as well as the other things I'm trying to do with them. |

Goodness. I've had to avert my eyes from that avatar. She looks like she needs to stand 59 minutes of every hour as well as investing in sheep's shears.
Another bit of weightloss information for kids - on the telly this morning they said new research suggests that 3rd graders need to sleep 9.5 hours a night. Any less, and there is a higher risk of obesity.
I'm not familiar with the US school system. Can anyone tell me what age a 3rd grader is? |

The standing part is the only one I have never heard before.
Eating at a regular time is, of course, good. It's probably the reason I have put on 5 kg or more since moving to Korea, despite living much more actively.

Kids start grade 1 when they're 5 or 6, and finish when they're 17 or 18 (depends on how late your birthday is in the year) A third grader would be 8 or 9 years old. |

dream weaver - gary wright
i've just closed my eyes again
climbed aboard the dream weaver train
driver take away my worries of today
and leave tomorrow behind
ooh dream weaver
i believe you can get me through the night
ooh dream weaver
i believe we can reach the morning light
fly me high through the starry skies
maybe to an astral plane
cross the highways of fantasy
help me to forget today's pain
ooh dream weaver
i believe you can get me through the night
ooh dream weaver
i believe we can reach the morning light
though the dawn may be coming soon
there still may be some time
fly me away to the bright side of the moon
and meet me on the other side
ooh dream weaver
i believe you can get me through the night
ooh dream weaver
i believe we can reach the morning light
fly me high through the starry skies
maybe to an astral plane
cross the highways of fantasy
help me to forget today's pain |
