I'm flying into Manila and have about five days. I'm going with my fiance and friend.

Flights to Boracay are around 145... a flight to Puerto Princessa is about 50 dollars. (all RT)

So initially it is between Palawan and Boracay. I'm open to other places too. I have about 3 nights at the end of my vacation if you have any land suggestion near Manila.

We don't dive. So swimming and snorkeling would be the main things in the water. Everything I am reading says Boracay for drinking and partying and Palawan for scenery and calm. That hold up?

Any other suggestions?

What about places to stay? I'd like to do something ultra cheap a couple of nights. Then five star a couple of nights. Five star is easy to find. What about ultra cheap. Hut like?

Short timers and not divers AND coming via Manila..... Boracay is the only real option that fits your criteria.

hey im in the phils the same time as you. decide NOW!!!! from what i've been encountering, boracay (esp the cheap places) are 95% booked. and some places are really bleeding with the rates, places are nearly double. xmas is a bit of a rip.

i hope it's not as ridiculously crowded as it seems it will be...i'll be near boat station 1. can i find a beach that isnt completely packed with people?

I spent Xmas and New Year's on Malapascua few years back. Twas a good time, but if you're flying into Manila, perhaps not the most viable option. Fly to Manila, then to Cebu, then the taxi/public bus (more crap option) then the banca. Maybe not doable on 5 days. Very pleasant nonetheless. Highly recommended for some peace and quiet. Try Cocabana should you go.

I think you can find both your options in El Nido, Palawan.

I decided on Boracay. I'll go to El Nido in Feb for 8 days I believe.

The ticket from Manila to Boracay on Cebu Pacific cost me 116 per ticket. I booked it today. For the person who found them much more expensive that should save you about 75 a ticket. (150?)

That's leaving Saturday morning and returning Wednesday morning. Flight is in to Kalibo though. Caticlan flights were about 20 more a person on other airlines.

I'm looking at Boracay as well for over Christmas. Anyone have any recommendations for places or areas to stay?? I'll be by myself so not somewhere too couply, and not too basic or super expensive. I've only got a week so I do want to treat myself.

i booked a place called trafalgar cottages off hostelworld.com..for $25 a night got a double bed (sleeps two) with a "private balcony" and hammock (probably not as nice as it sounds) - but apparently no AC and no hot shower. they did have an AC room for about $40 a night.

might be too basic for your needs but it was really tough for me to find any resort that didnt have prices around 80 a night. a lot, and i mean a lot, of places are fully booked despite having doubled (or more) their prices (super peak season they call it).

I think the place you booked doesn't have a bathroom in that room either if I remember correctly, it's downstairs. If they have a bathroom I was going to book tomorrow night at the same place.
