Maybe the better question would be, "Would any of you vote for the liberal candidate (Chung Dong-Young)?"He's made no effort to distance himself from all the terrible policies of the Roh administration (the three Nos, the press restrictions, the law school policy, the focus on balanced development, expanding the already bloated public sector, the bizarre restriction on foreign language schools, appeasing North Korea at almost all costs).

As an American not sure of who to vote for for president in '08, I'm kind of jealous of the very clear choice between Chung and Lee Myung-Bak. However, it would get complicated if the other major conservative figure (Lee Hoi-Chang) got in the race, possibly sapping enough votes from Lee Myung-Bak to give the liberals a victory.

It really is a case of picking the lesser of two evils. I would go for Chung simply because Lee Myung Bak is so unashamedly chaebol. How quickly democracy has turned sour! Only 20 years into the project and already they're reduced to picking from these two repellent criminals.

I'd vote for whichever guy panders to the racist anti-foreigner base the least. Roh would never have gotten my vote.

LMB. There should be a rule in Korea that a former Unifiction minister should not be allowed to run for president on security concerns. If you thought DJ and Roh were selleouts to the North, just wait for Chung to get into power. The guy was a television announcer, he has absolutely no qualifications to be president of a small business, not to mention a country. He has never managed anything, he has never been in charge of anything bigger than a ministry. He would be a disaster. Like him or not, LMB has the experience and qualifications to be president.

They both suck.

A vote for Lee is a vote for a better economy and less NK ass kissing. But also a vote for corruption.

A vote for Jung is a vote for another idiotic Noh-type government. No thanks.

Lee is the lesser of 2 evils.

A vote for Chung is NOT a vote for corruption? Im sorry but the last two administrations have been extremely corrupt.

A vote for anyone in Korean politics is a vote for corruption.

I prefer pro-Cheobol corruption over pro-Pyongyang corruption. Atleast the money the Chobeols earn doesnt go toward weapons aimed at SK. I hope a proper witch hunt is implemented to find and destroy those guilty of financing the DPRK's weapons and slave laboir camps over the last 10 years. DK and Roh, should be first in line.

Wait, you like music too, don't you? Why was that not the deciding factor for swaying away from Lee Myungbag, considering he wants to get the government involved in who's allowed to play concerts and who's not?

The key to Korea being well run is to have the place run by a non Korean.
When Koreans run the place we have corruption and gross incompetence.
The last time this place was run like a well oiled machine, was when the place was run by the Japanese.
Ouch! That's gonna infuriate some people.
Why did Korea need the biggest ever IMF bailout? Korean business and Government incompetence.
The banking system now runs better, why? Foreign banks.
More transperancy in business, why? Foreign shareholders.
As much as Koreans lament the presence of the evil foreigners. Foreigners make this country a better place to live, whilst Korean governance, makes this place a worse place to live.
Imagine what this place would be like if the police, and judiciary were all replaced with judges and cops from the west. The place would be a well organized happier more just country.
If I could vote for a new president of Korea. Vote 1 Koizumi!
Now that's really inflamatory!!!

I am Korean. But rest assured that I won't flame you.
You have been consistently the most candid of the bunch.
Even in this day and age, to so many white people, colonialism, in one form of another, runs in the blood. And it isn't anything new. Laughing

Is that true?

Most Koreans I talk to like LMB. I tell them every politician in the world is full of shit.

Hold on, hold on - pro-chaebol corruption IS pro-Pyongyang corruption. Just look in to who set up the original inter-Korea summit and why.

(Hyundai, to secure exclusive rights to develop Kaesong Industrial Zone and Kumgangsan tourist zone, in case you can't be bothered to look into it. They paid US$400 million to the North Korean government to encourage KJI to attend, and another US$100 million was provided by the SK government. This money is widely suspected to be what was used to build the rather flaccid nuclear device that the North exploded last year.)
