I used to wonder why this guy even bothered with the pretense of writing novels, instead of just selling his stuff as story scenarios to Hollywood. Has anyone here actually read one of his books? Admittedly, I may be projecting my own disinterest in fiction onto others.
Kind of surprising that This Perfect Day was never made into a film, since I assume that's what Levin was angling for when he wrote it. But then again I guess maybe they figured it was pretty much just a Brave New World knockoff, made redundant by about a dozen other films.
"Stepford Wives" has kinda sorta entered the everyday vocabulary, and of course Rosemary's Baby inaguarated a whole genre of films, though credit for that probably goes more to Polanski than to Levin.
I remember seeing Boys From Brazil on TV as a kid. As I recall, it contained a few of those sort of pseudo-surrealist touches that were popular in 1970s cinema. |

I have. I read Rosemary's Baby years ago. All I remember is that it was a fun read, in an E. A. Poe/Stephen King kind of way. |
