All you motorbike riders out there, be careful when riding on the sidewalks. The police are setting up special cars with cameras to take pictures of your license plates if you are on the sidewalk.

All you non-motorbike riders out there, rejoice.

A Police car just about backed into me yesterday. The cops were backing out from a blind corner straight in two lanes of traffic.

Yeah and yesterday they were pulling over a dude who was innocently driving in the 24-hour bus lane to pass the congested traffic in the regular lanes. What's their problem is what I want to know.

Korean cops are suddenly giving out tickets. I was pulled over for running a red light.....jeez the nerve of some cops!!! Another friend was given a ticket for turning left on a green without an arrow. I saw a bunch of cops pulling bikes off a short section of the express way that bikes like to use, and to make matters worse they actually gave me a breathalizer at the last check stop I went through. I think Korea is changing.............the free for all days of riding wild and free just might be over.....

So What?
Korean Police are always "watching", that's a no brainer, now getting them to stop watching and actually do something, there lies the challenge!

Oh look, that guy ran a red light and nearly killed 2 kiddies, Yawn back to sleep.

Good news.

I too have noticed the (slight) increase in enforcement.

Could it be they're nearing the end of the year and they need to make their quota of tickets given in certain categories. Next week they'll be after riders with no helmets and ignore what they were doing this week. You watch Smile

Yeah that reminds of how every time I drive without a helmet I get pulled over by a cop for it, yet every single day I see legions of crazed teenagers doubled up on speed bikes, racing through the streets, cutting people off, swerving everywhere, driving into oncoming traffic through red lights.. somehow they can't seem to crack down on the real assnapkins running amok.

It never ceases to amaze me how ajosshis try to "correct" foreign behaviour, but are blind to their own countrymen doing 10X worse right in front of their eyes! Rolling Eyes

The other day I was about to cross the road when some old ajosshi points to a car trying to drive across. I point then to the red light (It was obvious the car should be at a standstill.) The car drives through the red light, but he still sees me as in the wrong, crossing the road while traffic is coming through. I then point to a korean who does exactly that, while he is telling me not to.

So 2 Koreans, within a split second, just broke all the rules he was trying to explain to me, right under his nose.He quickly headed off grumbling to himself. I wonder if somewhere...possibly...in that mindset..hidden under the many layers...koreans acknowledge even to themselves that they have a racist outlook?

Somedays just appearing happy, is enough to draw angry looks from Koreans. Its racism gone nuts!

Speaking of helmet laws, they are busting a lot of people for that lately. That's who I usually see pulled over.

They are being selective about breathalizers now. They are "looking" at people and then deciding when to give them a drunk test.

Here is a list of fines and penalties in English:

http://www.dla.go.kr/english/03_pds/pds02.jsp

40,000 won for a lot of offenses on a motorbike.

If they can actually catch and stop me for driving in the bus lane or speeding (under 40kph over the limit), I'll pay the cop 40,000 cash on the spot.
