I'm wondering how much other SMOE teachers are getting paid for over night winter camp.

First I was told that it would be 50,000 extra per day, now they are telling me 500,000 for 3 weeks (21 days, 20 nights)

They told me I am not allowed to leave the compound during those 3 weeks, so I'm really not sure if it is worth it for 500 bucks.

Does anyone know what the normal extra wage is for these sleep away camps?

Has anyone done a public school over night camp who could tell me what they got paid? And if they think it is worth 500$ for 3 weeks? Also has anyone refused to do an overnight camp (since we are allowed per our contracts) and if so what were the repercusions at your school?

SMOE contracts say that non-teaching overtime is 6000 won per hour. It seems to me that 16 extra hours per day would work out to 96,000 per day. Not that I would expect that, but it seems like 20,000 a day is very low considering that we have to be there 24 hours a day. So if you have 8 extra hours per day (those when you are not sleeping) then it should be 48,000 per day.

I'm sure this seems rather picky, but I am getting sick of my school using my contract whenever it suits them, and then totally disregarding it when they like. I really didn't think that I would go through so many issues of contract interpretation with a public school.

Wings, people during camps last summer were given 1.4 million won for doing a 3 week district camp.

Do NOT agree to do the camp if they tell you you can't leave the "compound" or university campus or where ever you are. You stay there, yes, but your duties are teaching classes, doing scheduled activities, etc. You should be free to come and go at night, at least to the local city or FamilyMart if you are out in the sticks.

Last year, some districts tried to enforce curfews, no drinking policies and tried to make teachers stay on campus at all times. It didn't fly. You agreed in your contract to do a sleep away camp, not be treated like a middle school camper. Some teachers found out these "rules" when they got to camp and refused to abide by them. One university wanted to put chains on the dormitory doors. All teachers banded together and refused to stay with chains on the doors even though the university said it was their policy.

Don't take shit whatsoever. Teach your classes, have fun, do the activities, and go wherever you want in your free time.

Also, 500 bucks is way too low. Tell the school that in the past, 1.4 million was the standard. Teachers are required to do a camp, but not necessarily district camps. In the past, some teachers have refused to do a sleep away camp. It caused some bad vibes, but they stood their ground.

Stick to your contract and be firm about it.

-can't leave the compound while others booze and *beep*?
-50 a day??They're being too greedy about how much they pocket

You have to formally agree to any OT.Simply don't agree.

Thanks for the feedback. I know that I don't have to do an overnight camp unless I agree to it, and for 500$ I will say no. Now I just need to get in touch with other teachers and convince them to do the same.

3*7*50.000 = 1.050.000

Anyone can easily earn 500.00 per week, why would they pay you 500.00 for three weeks?

When I say 500,000 I mean on top of my regular salary. Not 500,000 total for the 3 weeks. If didn't do the district sleep away camp, I would work my regular hours and still get my regular salary.

You'd get paid your salary no matter what. 500k sucks. So does a million and change. Get them to pay real OT or get everyone to walk. The paying 1.5 a head is cheaper than getting a bunch of teachers just for camp.
