|
|
My PS contract will finish at the end of Feb. and I would like to sign up with another school starting in March. Is it possible for my current school to provide me with 75% of the full fare from Korean air and use that money to travel to SE Asia, and then have my new school reimburse me for a ticket to get back to Korea? This may sound kind of shady, but I'd like to get cash for the flight out of Korea and cash to get back to Korea and start teaching again. Is that possible? |

Technically...yes.
They do owe you a flight home upon contract completion.
Your new employer should technically be offering airfare.
This is not shady.
Just ask your school for a ticket to the S.E. asia destination you want....problem solved.
Asking for cash might help but your school might not want to hand out cash for a ticket home so you can buy a cheaper ticket to S.E. Asia and pocket the rest..... |

I know SMOE will reimburse teachers the amount of a flight to their home country. So if you can fly to the USA for 1.2 million won, but book a trip to Chile for 1.7 million won, you can get 1.2 million. This may not apply to other PS jobs. |

I thought it was pretty standard for schools to give the amount of cash required to buy the ticket to your home country -- I have only worked at 3 places in Korea, but all three preferred it that way -- *I* have usually asked for the ticket, since it saves me the hassle of buying it, but my current place no longer even does that -- I get cash in the amount of the ticket.
In any event, I would just ask for the cash from each place -- should be no skin off their noses if they just do an internet fair search, print off the prices, and pay you that amount. To me, it seems like a win-win -- it saves them the hassle of actually reserving the ticket and you get the cash to which you are entitled by contract...everyone is happy and everyone has a little less work/stress. |
