I love mountains and hiking and so far I've only been to the one closest to me (soyosan) and it was sweet. Looking for recommendations.

Which ones have people liked?

P.S.
If anyone's done dobongsan how was it?

Mt. Chirisan is pretty nice. Lots of trails if you like hiking. Not very tourist friendly though in terms of information.

Anyone else? Where is this place, and is the Korean spelling 키리산?

http://tour2korea.com. Has all the info you want.

I've been to around 80% of the National Parks here, and a fair few provincial parks as well. My top 3 NPs thus far:

Jirisan

Naejangsan

Songnisan

And yeas, I've been to Seoraksan, and it was waaaaaaaaay to crowded, kitschy and noisy for my liking. Same with Bukhansan.

I've been to almost all of them. Here are my pics:

Songnisan is one of my fav's...perhaps because it's pretty close to my house, plus they have a little hut you can stay in on the mountain.

Jirisan is great for backpacking...you can go hut to hut along the ridge.

Sereoksan is nice because of the ocean/mountain thing all in one.

Deogyusan is very beautiful, plus there's a hut up there as well.

If you're going to try to go to a mountain this time of year, go to Naejungsan.

It's beautiful there right now with the maple leaves changing color.

Any mountain is good....

My favorites would be seoraksan(only during the week though) and Juwangsan.

I really enjoy mountain hiking in Korea too. I would like to learn how you get to those other places without a car and a map. I hiked most everything around Changwon and found it spectacular and wish to do some more elsewhere.

Get a Lonely Planet. It'll give you the basic information about getting to the mountains as well as a bit about the possible hikes and a a small map. Once you get to the mountain, you can get better information.
