I'm so fuckin pissed right now, I can't even think straight.

Last week one of my female students asked me why I want to be a teacher. I thought "ok here we go" but I answered honestly.
Then, today I when we were reading, I asked one of my male students to read first. The same girl started whining and said "why him first why not me, do you like him?" . She knows she said something wrong because she put her book up in front of her face and had an embarassed kind of smile on her face. I was so shocked I didn't know what to say, so I just gave her "the look" and continued. But let me tell you, if she says anything like that again I will give her a piece of my mind and she will NOT be comming back to my class again. I find that so fucking insulting and I'm so mad that someone would even suggest something like that. Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad *beep*
She just ruined my night Evil or Very Mad

Anybody else getting comments like that?

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't let something a student said get to me, she's just fuckin around and doesn't know any better. Why let it ruin your night? Just like, water off a ducks back with it. Or is that oil? Hell I don't remember

I don't see the issue. Kids always complain to me of favoritism.

So long as they don't start pronouncing the word pedophile I'd take no notice.

if they do, then you need to threaten to quit unless it gets sorted.

It wasn't about favoritism. It was the way she said "like", and she knew damn well what she was implying.

Well, I can see why you're upset about it, and to be honest, I'd have been a bit annoyed as well, but look at it this way, at least you know now that she doesn't need any work on word stress.

Chin-up, they're kids afterall.

Water... Very Happy

Really, I don't see how you'd equate this to anything like pedophilia, though... Confused

Exactly. I had two 12 year olds kiss today. I mean KISS. Several times AFTER the whole class altered me and were pointing to Paul and Steve. They kind of sheepishly grinned, and did it again, but they weren't like, you know laughing their arses off. I think they are in love Shocked

Sir

I really think you doth protest too much....

I know I'm being mean but such a strong, shocking guttural reaction from yourself hints at a guilty conscience . Surely anyone totally comfortable with themselves would have laughed it off for the bizarre insinuation it was probably intended as ?

Confused *sigh* , I knew someone was going to say something like that. After calming down, I realize that I did overeact, but I still don't like what she said.

I can assure you I'm not a pedophile, but this has made me realize how much I care what my students think of me, and I really don't want them to think I'm a pedophile. It kinda hurts. How would you feel to be accused of that, when you did nothing wrong other than to choose a certain student to read first on this particular day?

I will admit that I've been a little self conscious about how I interact with my students since all this shit went down.

For example,

I'm not quite sure what you said here(altered me?), but today a student was begging me for a pepero and another teacher told him that I would give him one for a kiss. I was like wtf, and he looked like he was seriously thinking about it, so I immediately gave him the pepero and walked away. A month ago I probably would have played along a little longer.

Am I the only one thinking like this?

One girl accused me of favoritism over another girl.

"Teacher you love Betty!"

My standard response to this is always "Yes. I love all my students." This time I only said "yes", forgetting the full rejoinder.

The girl's eye grew large. "TEACHER! YOU ARE AN ADULT. BETTY IS A CHILD. THAT IS A CRIME!"

All my insecurities are basically played on in the classroom...you just have to develop thick skin and lock out any negative comments the students throw at you. Take them personally and you are a gonner.

This reminded me of something. I used to laugh at my fellow native co-worker because he used to get upset when the kids laughed at his haircut.
I would laugh and tell him "Why are you getting upset, they're just kids, you can't take what they say seriously."
I guess this would be a good time to take my own advice.

Thanks guys. Feel better now. Smile

I think you may have read far too much into what she said...precisely because of the Neil case....you may have been subconsiously aprehensive about this and read too much into it.

From your post it seems she was just being a kid and perhaps saying the boy was your favorite students. she may be competitive and wanted to be the one to read first...

You just seem to have gone a long way to interpret what she may or may not have been thinking....

Anyway, take a breather and cool off before concluding that she was trying to accuse you of being a pedo....

Just my two cents.

REEEEAAALLY? Confused Question I sense either sarcasm or BS there.

The secret is not to care what your students think of you. Know you're the sh it and do your job.
